Guys, £15k robot cleaners are now a thing and they have a really creepy feature

Are you sick of doing your own cleaning? Well, you can now order a robot cleaner to do it all for you for the small price of £15k, thanks to a tech company called 1x Technologies. But this robot has a feature that feels straight out of a horror film.

1X Technologies, a Norwegian-American robotics and AI company, has just announced the release of their humanoid housekeeping robot, called Neo. It’s 5’6, is described as having a “soft” body, and has a battery life of four hours – perfect to do a full house clean. Its creepy design involves a detachable head and a knit suit, no mouth and eerie camera “eyes”. You control your Neo with a custom app.

Dar Sleeper, the vice president of product and design at 1X Technologies, broke down how Neo actually works in its launch video.

“You give your Neo a list of chores, you schedule a time you want them done, so you can focus on what matters to you, while your Neo does the rest,” he said.

But what if your Neo doesn’t know how to do a specific chore? Well, here’s where things get super creepy.

“If there are any chores that your Neo doesn’t know how to do autonomously, you can use expert mode to have an expert from 1X supervise the session, and provide corrective intervention to help Neo complete any task,” Dar said.

With Neo just being developed, it’s not clear how many chores he’ll need that expert help for, but personally, I wouldn’t like random people being able to see around my house.

Since the launch trailer dropped, everyone online has been sharing their reactions.

“Guys, I don’t have to learn how to cook to get a man now,” said one person on X. “Will be buying one expeditiously”

“I’m sorry, but having a random employee randomly walking about your home, operating through a camera is a big red flag for me,” said another person. “Better to pay someone than to get a robot.”

Love it or hate it, the Neo is available to order now for a deposit of £150, ahead of its full release for £15k next year. Time to start saving!
