Gayton criticised for giving away Travis Scott tickets

Minister of Sport, Art and Culture Gayton McKenzie has been criticised for giving away tickets to the Travis Scott concert this weekend.

The US rapper will perform in Johannesburg’s FNB Stadium on 11 October as part of his Circus Maximus World Tour.

In the lead-up to the concert, countless fans have been attempting to resell their tickets on social media.

MINISTER GAYTON MCKENZIE GIVES AWAY TICKETS – FACES BACKLASH

In a social media post, Gayton McKenzie appeared with a surprise for his followers.

He casually said: “As the minister of happiness, I’ve got some tickets for you, hit us up on socials for Travis Scott tickets”.

Although the minister has given away tickets to sporting and music events before, he faced backlash from the public this time.

@Mandla1197253: “We’re not interested, we want sport development.  Stop gambling with our life and money”.

@Joe_Man_Joe: “Is this how the Department of Sports and Culture uses its allocated budget?

@Sneakerchef_05: “We don’t want Travis Scott tickets. We want our local arts and culture to be promoted, not American culture.

WHY ARE SO MANY FANS RESELLING TICKETS?

Meanwhile, social media platforms have been inundated with South Africans hoping to sell their Travis Scott tickets before his show this weekend.

With just days to go, many of the US rappers’ fans are hoping to make a quick buck with the last-minute sale, and some are likely attempting to dupe the public with fake tickets.

Others fear another Astroworld disaster, where 10 people were killed in a stampede at the rapper’s show.
