  • The Gauteng Department of Health says all provincial health facilities are ready for the increased demand expected during the festive season.
  • MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko has assured residents that 24-hour clinics, staffing levels and medicine supplies will be closely monitored.
  • Eighteen forensic medical services will also operate around the clock to support survivors of violence.

The Gauteng Department of Health has assured residents that all health facilities across the province are fully prepared for the busy festive season.

Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko says the department has taken proactive steps to ensure adequate resource allocation, allowing health services to operate effectively during a period when demand typically increases.

“All our 24-hour Community Health Centres will continue operating as per normal throughout the festive season. This will ensure that our communities always have access to essential medical care,” said Nkomo-Ralehoko.

She added that the department will actively monitor staffing levels and pressure points to ensure all facilities are adequately capacitated to respond to emergencies.

The MEC has encouraged residents, particularly those receiving treatment for chronic illnesses, to keep their medical appointments during the holiday period.

The Gauteng Medical Supplies Depot (MSD) will also ensure that life-saving and essential medicines are available at all health facilities. MSD has committed to closely monitoring stock levels and responding swiftly to any emerging needs.

The festive season is often marked by an increase in cases of violence, including gender-based violence and intimate partner violence.

Nkomo-Ralehoko says, as a result, 18 Clinical Forensic Medical Services (CFMS) facilities will operate 24 hours a day to ensure the province is prepared to support survivors and respond to these urgent cases.
