  • Gauteng has confirmed its readiness to host the upcoming G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg following months of coordinated preparation work.
  • Major infrastructure upgrades and heightened security measures are in place to ensure a smooth and safe event.
  • The summit will proceed despite the absence of representation from the United States government.

With just a few days left before the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, the Gauteng Provincial Government has formally declared its readiness to host the prestigious event.

This follows months of intensive, coordinated work between the provincial and national government as well as local municipalities.

The G20 Summit is a key forum for international cooperation, bringing together leaders from the world’s largest economies to discuss and coordinate on global issues.

These include financial stability, climate change, and sustainable development. The historic ceremony will take place this weekend at the Johannesburg Expo Centre in Nasrec, south of Johannesburg.

At the same time, President Cyril Ramaphosa confirmed that the G20 Leaders’ Summit will proceed as planned, despite the absence of representation from the United States of America (USA) government.

As part of preparations, Johannesburg has invested heavily in road infrastructure and vowed to prosecute anyone who damages this infrastructure or disrupts the prestigious ceremony in any way.

Major routes like Sandton, the M1/M2 highways, and Soweto have been upgraded, with issues like potholes being fixed.

There’s a strong security and traffic management plan, including high patrolling by the Johannesburg Metro Police Department to ensure leaders and delegates are protected.

The provincial government says intergovernmental law enforcement will be deployed across all ports of entry to ensure the safe arrival of G20 delegates.
