Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder signs for new club

From Naturena to abroad. This former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder has just signed for a new club.

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Edson Castillo has completed his move to Venezuelan side Carabobo FC, the club has confirmed.

Free agent

Castillo left the Glamour Boys back in July this year.

He has been a free agent since then – remaining clubless for almost half a year.

However, the situation has now changed for Castillo.

“Chiefs had initially been expected to welcome Castillo back for pre-season, with his contract running until June next year after the option was believed to have been triggered. However, discussions behind the scenes ultimately paved the way for his departure, with Carabobo FC now securing his services,” Soccer Laduma reported.

The 28-year-old Venezuelan international officially sealed his departure from Amakhosi in mid-year after featuring sporadically for the Soweto giants since joining the club.

Castillo’s time at Kaizer Chiefs saw him deployed primarily in central midfield as he looked to establish himself in the starting XI.

However, with competition for places intensifying, he ultimately made the decision to continue his career abroad.

CHANGES ON THE NATURENA HORIZON

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs will now turn their attention to finalising their squad plans for the second half of the 2025/26 season in the upcoming transfer window.

Amakhosi management is focused on retaining key performers, while looking to add one or two fresh attacking and creative options.

Furthermore, changes in personnel are on the horizon at Naturena with a young Kaizer Chiefs attacker heading out of Naturena.

As always, the January transfer window is bound to bring change to Naturena.
