KwaZulu-Natal residents are urged to prepare for changing weather conditions this Friday, with fog, heat, and scattered thunderstorms expected across the province’s interior.
Weather forecaster Phemelo Zonke warned that fog patches are expected in parts of KwaZulu-Natal early on Friday. “Visibility could drop to less than a kilometre in places,” Zonke explained.
“We urge drivers to take caution if travelling in the morning and to keep a safe following distance.”
The fog is likely to affect routes connecting KZN to the eastern Free State and escarpment regions, causing potential delays for early commuters.
Hot and partly cloudy conditions to follow after the fog
By mid-morning, the fog is expected to clear, giving way to partly cloudy conditions across much of the province. However, isolated showers and thunderstorms may develop over the interior later in the day.
Zonke said, “Scattered thunder showers could occur in the afternoon, especially in the interior of KwaZulu-Natal.”
Temperatures will rise sharply, with some towns experiencing highs of up to 37°C. The coastal belt will remain warm and humid, while inland areas could experience dry and windy conditions that increase the risk of veld fires.
Advisory for Outdoor Activities
Residents planning outdoor activities are advised to stay hydrated and avoid exposure to direct sunlight during peak hours.
Authorities have also warned of potential power disruptions caused by lightning or falling branches during the storms.
