The Overberg District Municipality suffered a serious accident involving one of its fire trucks, as crews continue to battle a relentless veldfire near Bredasdorp.
According to reports, a fire truck from the Bredasdorp Fire Station veered off the road and rolled down an embankment while responding to the ongoing emergency.
Two firefighters sustained injuries in the crash and were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
‘Expressed concern’
Richard Bosman, Municipal Manager of the Overberg District Municipality, confirmed the incident and expressed concern for the injured firefighters.
“We ask that the community keep them in their thoughts as they recover,” Bosman said.
The veldfire, which has been burning since earlier this week, continues to challenge firefighting teams amid difficult terrain and weather conditions.
“This has been a challenging and intense fire to contain, but our teams continue their efforts to bring it fully under control,” Bosman added, commending the crews’ tireless work.
‘Gratitude’
The municipality also extended its gratitude to all firefighters, volunteers, and partner organisations supporting the operation.
“Their unwavering dedication and teamwork under difficult conditions have been invaluable,” Bosman said.
As containment efforts continue, authorities urge the public to remain cautious and avoid affected areas to allow emergency services to operate safely.
