‘Final nail in coffin’: DStv CONFIRMS axe of top channels

DStv has confirmed that 12 top channels will officially be terminated from its service after failed negotiations with Warner Bros Discovery.

Additionally, four more channels, from Paramount Africa and CBS AMC Networks, will be axed due to cost-cutting measures.

DSTV CONFIRMS TERMINATION OF CHANNELS

On Tuesday, 2 December, DStv confirmed its fears that a dozen of its channels would be terminated by 1 January 2026.

This followed unsuccessful negotiations with Warner Bros Discovery.

The pay-channel group, belonging to Multichoice, which French company Canal+ now owns, sent out a push notification to its subscribers alerting them to the news.

The 12 channels that have officially been axed are:

  • Discovery Channel
  • TLC
  • Cartoonito
  • Cartoon Network
  • CNN International
  • Food Network
  • The Travel Channel
  • TNT
  • Investigation Discovery
  • Real Time
  • HGTV
  • Discovery Family

Paramount Africa has also confirmed that it will be discontinuing the BET Africa and MTV Base channels at the end of 2025.

The multimedia broadcast organisation says this is in line with scaling back its international operations as part of a major restructuring plan.

In addition, CBS and AMC Networks have also announced plans to downsize, shutting down the CBS Reality and CBS Justice channels.

SUBSCRIBERS ARE IRATE

On the X platform, DStv subscribers reacted with anger to the news. Many voiced their decision to ditch the satellite TV service, once and for all.

Others revealed that they had terminated their subscriptions due to high costs, a lack of variety, and the inability to choose their own package.

X user @Thendo_012 shared: “This is the final nail in the coffin for DSTV. They’re done.”

@EMuthubi added, “Just cancel the subscription at this point.”
