- A fifth suspect has been arrested in the Hawks’ investigation into South Africans allegedly being facilitated into the Russia–Ukraine war.
- The arrest follows four others who were detained at OR Tambo International Airport after a police tip-off.
- All suspects, including a senior media personality, are expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on 01 December 2025.
Another suspect has been arrested by the Hawks’ Crimes Against the State unit in connection with the ongoing investigation into how several South Africans were allegedly facilitated into involvement in the Russia–Ukraine war.
This fifth arrest follows the earlier detention of four others, who were charged on Saturday after being arrested at OR Tambo International Airport on Friday.
The arrests stem from a tip-off from airport police about four individuals who were reportedly en route to Russia via a United Arab Emirates flight. The Hawks say the suspects were removed from the aircraft.
One of the arrested individuals is a senior media personality.
The newly arrested suspect will join the other four on Monday, 01 December 2025, in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court, also facing charges of contravening the Foreign Military Assistance Act.
