The family of a London student killed in a “hit-and-run” have released a heartbreaking statement following his death.
Yubin Tamang’s family has been demanding justice since the fatal crash, with British rapper Ghetts charged with death by dangerous driving.
The 20-year-old student, from Nepal, was studying at the University of Roehampton when he was fatally struck on 18th October. He died in hospital two days later.
Yubin’s family members have since released statements about the “loving” person he was, with the student’s father describing his son as his “little world”, Metro reports. A message accompanying photos uploaded of Yubin’s childhood in Nepal reads: “‘My little world, all I have left is tears in my hands.”
Manita Rai, another family member of Yubin’s, uploaded a TikTok showing photos of the student. Text appears on the video written in Nepali, saying: “How cruel is fate to take you away at such a young age”. Manita then describes Yubin as the “bright light” in his parents’ house.

The 20-year-old had been “a good student” at the University of Roehampton before the fatal crash, and was himself a fan of hip-hop music.
Telma Gomez, who is said to be a friend of Yubin’s from work, also uploaded a tribute video to TikTok. In the caption, she describes the 20-year-old as a “family oriented young boy who touched so many lives with kindness, laughter, and love.”
Telma linked a GoFundMe that she says has been set up “to help his family with funeral costs and other expenses during this difficult time.”

Yubin lived with his housemate David in east London. Speaking about his death, David said: “‘He was my brother. I can barely speak. I am so upset. He was a good person, a very good person.”
The student was an only child and his parents had sent him to the UK to receive an education, the prosecution said.
Appearing at Barkingside Magistrates on Monday (27th October), Ghetts wore a grey prison-issued tracksuit.
The 41-year-old had initially been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
After Yubin died in hospital, two days after the collision, the indictment was changed. Ghetts first appeared at Stratford Magistrates’ Court on the same day.

The incident occurred in Redbridge Lane East, and police are appealing for witnesses to the crash to come forward with information.
Ghetts has not yet commented publicly on the charges.
The musician has toured internationally with Top Boy star and fellow rapper Kano, and was formerly part of the East London grime collective Nasty Crew.
The Netflix star played at Glastonbury last year, and has collaborated with well-known artists such as Ed Sheeran, Stormzy and Skepta. His songs have amassed millions of Spotify streams, with top hits like IC3 One Take and Skengman.
He won Best Male Act at the 2021 Mobo Awards and has also been shortlisted for the Mercury Prize.
