South Africa is mourning the tragic and untimely death of media personality and businessman Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock, who was murdered in downtown Johannesburg on Tuesday, 16 December 2025. He was 40 years old.
In a statement released by his family, the Stock family said they learned of his passing with “indescribable heartbreak, deep sorrow and overwhelming shock”. They described the senseless nature of his death as devastating, leaving them struggling to comprehend a future without him.
Affectionately known as DJ Warras, and also recognised by many as “The Shady Lurker”, Warrick was described as the heart and anchor of his family. His presence, they said, brought light, laughter and strength into every space he entered.
He is remembered as a devoted son, a loving and proud father, and a cherished brother and uncle. Beyond his immediate family, his influence extended across South Africa’s entertainment and media landscape, where he was deeply respected and loved by colleagues, friends and supporters.
Warrick leaves behind three young children, his mother and his siblings, whose lives, the family said, have been irrevocably changed by this profound loss.
As they begin the painful journey of mourning, the Stock family has asked for privacy, compassion and understanding during this extremely difficult time. They have also appealed for the public to allow the South African Police Service the space and support needed to conduct a thorough investigation into the crime, so that justice may be served.
The family indicated that they are not yet in a position to appoint a spokesperson and asked to be kept in the nation’s thoughts and prayers as they navigate their grief.
They also expressed heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love, messages of support and condolences received since the news of Warrick’s passing became public, noting that the kindness and solidarity shown have brought moments of comfort during an incredibly dark time.
