Flashy businessman Vusi “Cat” Matlala has given Thabo Bester a run for his money yet again after making a public appearance in head-to-toe designer wear.
The fraud-accused “tenderpreneur” appeared at Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee at the Kgosi Mampuru prison to testify about his alleged involvement in a high-ranking criminal syndicate.
Matlala is currently in custody after he was charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and money laundering in May.
Like Bester and his co-accused Nandipha Magudumana, Matlala and his partner are also awaiting trial.
VUSI ‘CAT’ MATLALA WEARS DESIGNER LABELS IN PRISON
On Thursday, 27 November, Vusi “Cat” Matlala made his second appearance in front of Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee at the Kgosi Mampuru prison, where he is being kept in custody.
The flashy businessman was dressed from head to toe in Fendi, an Italian luxury label.
Arriving in shackles, Matlala wore an all-black outfit that features the famous Fendi monogram.
A day earlier, the “tenderpreneur” appeared before the committee wearing a luxury Burberry outfit.
Both outfits are priced at tens of thousands of rands.
Several weeks after his arrest, Vusi “Cat” Matlala, his wife Tsakani, and their co-accused appeared in the Alexandria Magistrates Court relating to charges of a 2023 attempted hit on his ex-girlfriend, Tebogo Thobejane.
Appearing before the court, Matlala wore a navy and pink Gucci monogrammed pinstripe suit, which retails for around $6 000 (R107 000).
His wife Tsakani wore a grey skirt suit with matching Gucci spectacles and a Louis Vuitton belt.

The accused will face trial in January 2026
Like Thabo Bester’s recent court appearance, Vusi has sported groomed facial hair and edgy, black glasses.
Similar to Bester, who has also worn high-fashion designers such as Louis Vuitton and Burberry to court, the couple is known for their lavish lifestyles, flashy cars, and designer clothes.

Like Thabo Bester, Vusi Matlala has been accused of being a high-profile businessman who lived a lavish lifestyle and ran a string of businesses, allegedly aided by high-ranking connections and fraudulent tenders.

Bester is still serving time for his life sentences relating to rape and murder.
He is also awaiting trial over charges of his 2022 prison escape, as well as fraud, corruption, and violating multiple bodies.
The accused will next appear at the Bloemfontein High Court on 5 December 2025 for a case management hearing.
A trial date has yet to begin due to several delays.
