- Julius Malema has called for a global boycott of the 2026 G20 Summit after President Donald Trump announced that South Africa will not be invited.
- Malema says Trump is acting alone and insists South Africa, as a founding member, cannot be excluded.
- The South African government has urged other G20 nations to stand in solidarity against the decision.
Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema has called for a total boycott of the G20 Summit scheduled to take place in the United States next year.
Malema says the summit should be boycotted if South Africa is not invited.
This follows US President Donald Trump’s announcement that South Africa will not be invited to the 2026 G20 Summit in Miami.
Trump claimed South Africa refused to hand over the G20 presidency to a US Embassy representative.
The feud between South Africa and the US further stems from allegations made by Trump, accusing the South African government of mistreating Afrikaners and characterising it as “white genocide,” saying the state is failing to protect White Afrikaners.
Malema says other G20 members should use this moment to unite against what he calls Trump’s “fascist stance.”
He briefed the media on Wednesday afternoon.
Malema also added that South Africa should strengthen trade relations with China and leave the US behind.
He added that Trump cannot change the G20 declaration and exclude South Africa as a founding member.
“There’s no one who doesn’t want us at the G20 except this fool, it’s this guy who has a problem with us. We are the founding member of the G20 and no one is going to push us away. We are going to mobilise international communities,” said Malema.
The South African government meanwhile has called for solidarity and urged other G20 members to defend the rights of all member states.
