Eskom has confirmed that several areas in Soweto will experience a temporary power outage on Monday, 3 November, due to planned maintenance on the electricity distribution network. The outage, which will take place from 9:00 to 18:00, will affect residents in Braamfischer Phase 2, Meadowlands Zones 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, and Sotaba.
The utility said the scheduled interruption is essential to ensure the stability and safety of the network. “The interruption in electricity supply is necessary to perform essential maintenance on our distribution power lines,” Eskom stated.
The company said the maintenance will help reduce future unplanned outages and improve the reliability of the power supply to affected areas.
Eskom urges safety precautions
Residents are urged to take necessary precautions during the outage period. Eskom advised that, for safety reasons, all electrical appliances should be treated as if they are live at all times.
“In the interest of safety, customers are advised to treat all electrical appliances as live at all times during the power supply outage,” the utility warned.
Eskom further appealed for public cooperation and understanding while technicians carry out the work. “Eskom would like to thank you for your cooperation and apologises for any inconvenience that this maintenance may cause,” the notice added.
The utility also emphasised that the maintenance aims to strengthen the network and ensure more consistent service delivery to customers across Soweto, many of whom have previously experienced unscheduled outages.
Contingency and Possible Delays
Eskom cautioned that unforeseen circumstances could impact the maintenance schedule.
“Please note that, should circumstances beyond the control of Eskom arise, the planned electricity maintenance may not proceed as communicated,” the utility said.
The power utility assured residents that updates will be communicated if changes occur, and restoration will follow immediately after the work is completed.
