Eskom says several areas in Gauteng have been left without electricity following a storm in the Vaal.
The power utility said powerlines were damaged during adverse weather, causing cables to hang low.
After the storm, a truck drove into one of the lines.
AREAS AFFECTED
The outage has affected the following areas:
- De Deur
- Emfuleni Local Municipality
- Midvaal Municipality
- Orkeville
- Rust Ter Vaal
Apologising for the inconvenience, Eskom says teams are working to repair the damaged infrastructure.
“We anticipate completing all work and restoring supply to the affected areas by 20:00,” said the State-owned enterprise.
Eskom added that no injuries were reported as the line had already been isolated when the truck drove into it.
Meanwhile, in a separate outage, parts of Fourways, Douglasdale, Maroeladal, Norscot, Salfred AH and Witkoppen are also without power. In some of these areas, supply has already been restored.
“We are working on restoring supply to the remaining affected areas. At this stage, we cannot provide an estimated time of restoration. Updates will be provided as work progresses,” Eskom stated.
PUBLIC WARNING
Several parts of the country, including Gauteng, remain under weather warnings. Heavy rain can increase the risk of electric shock.
Eskom has previously urged the public to be cautious around overhead power cables that are damaged, collapsed or hanging low after storms. The utility warns that low-hanging lines are dangerous regardless of whether they are lying on the ground, touching objects or hanging freely.
SAFETY TIPS
