Elderly man found murdered in his Camps Bay home

According to multiple reports, the 84-year-old man was discovered at his Francolin Road residence in Camps Bay with his hands and feet tied.

Camps Bay is an affluent and well-policed suburb on Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard, where violent crime is rare.

A grim discovery in Camps Bay

The victim’s daughter made the grim discovery shortly before 13:00 on Wednesday before alerting authorities.

Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that a murder case had been opened, but that no arrests had yet been made.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation,” Twigg said, adding that officers noted no obvious signs of forced entry at the property.

CCTV footage from the street and surrounding area is being reviewed as part of the inquiry, with private security companies in the area assisting police.

Community left shook

The killing has sent shockwaves through the Camps Bay community, where violent crime is uncommon and security presence is high.

Martin Steinau, chairperson of the Camps Bay Community Policing Forum, said the incident had left residents deeply shaken.

“Camps Bay is generally regarded as a safe area, and for something like this to happen has left the community shocked,” Steinau said, adding that there was currently no indication of an immediate threat to residents.

Police have urged anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in Francolin Road or nearby areas in the days or hours leading up to the discovery to come forward.

Detectives believe public assistance could play a crucial role in identifying those responsible.

Anyone with information related to the case is asked to contact the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Kupiso, on 082 469 2734.

This is a developing story…
