Eight-hour water interruption will affect parts of Tshwane

The City of Tshwane has announced that residents in the Equestria supply area will experience a temporary water interruption on Thursday, 23 October, due to essential maintenance. The city will connect two 160mm uPVC pipes and one 315mm steel pipe to the leading water supply network, improving efficiency and reliability in the area.

According to the municipality, the work will begin at 8:00 and conclude at 16:00, lasting approximately eight hours. The city confirmed that the service interruption will affect only the Equestria area.

The city said, “This essential work is part of our ongoing effort to upgrade water infrastructure and ensure a stable supply for residents.”

City of Tshwane apologises and urges responsible water use

The City of Tshwane expressed regret for the temporary inconvenience, noting that the work is necessary to strengthen the water network.

“We apologise profusely for the inconvenience that may arise as a result of the work mentioned above,” the city said in a statement.

Residents are encouraged to plan ahead by storing enough water for household use during the interruption. The city also reminded residents that water conservation should become a daily habit, not just during outages.

Simple water-saving tips for residents

To promote long-term sustainability, the City urged residents to adopt efficient water use practices. It advised against watering gardens with hosepipes or sprinklers between 6:00 and 18:00, washing vehicles with hosepipes, or filling swimming pools unnecessarily.

Residents are further encouraged to use greywater for watering gardens and flushing toilets, and to report leaks or burst pipes immediately.

The city also shared practical water-saving ideas, such as installing low-flow showerheads, using dual-flush toilet cisterns, planting indigenous or drought-resistant plants, and collecting rainwater for reuse. Covering swimming pools to reduce evaporation and opting for quick showers over baths can also make a big difference.
