‘Ed Gein dug up my great-great-grandma’: Woman shares unhinged story after watching Monster

A woman on TikTok has come forward to claim that Ed Gein dug up the body of her great-grandmother, Eleanor Adams.

Though Netflix’s Monster: The Ed Gein Story is not exactly a factual retelling of the horrific crimes of serial killer Ed Gein, it has nonetheless given new life to a case that happened nearly 80 years ago. As we know, Ed, who was later diagnosed with schizophrenia, not only admitted to the murders of Mary Hogan and Bernice Worden, but also to digging up bodies from the cemetery in Plainfield, Wisconsin.

In a post that has since been viewed 6.7 million times, Taylor North reacted to the Netflix show in shock, as she explained in the caption: “Watching The Ed Gein Netflix series….knowing he dug up my great-great grandma.”

Of course, people had many, many questions, and while Taylor didn’t know all the details, she did post a part two that also went viral.

“Her name was Eleanor Adams, and she was from Plainfield, Wisconsin, which, if you don’t know, is a really small, kinda boring town. Not much happens there, but her daughter’s name was Barbara Jean Adams, who is my great-grandma,” she claimed, before adding later in the video, “When Eleanor had passed away, she was buried in Plainfield cemetery, and shortly after, Ed Gein came and dug her up.”

Her claims are somewhat confirmed by news reports from the time, with the Warsaw Times reporting that: “Authorities opened the graves of Mrs Eleanore Adams and Mrs Mabel Everson, both buried in 1951. Their names were on the list of women whose graves Gein said he looted. Mrs Adams’ casket was empty.”

Similarly, the Milwaukee Sentinel wrote: “In the earth above Mrs Everson’s empty casket, the investigators found a skull and some bones, a set of false teeth and a wedding ring. A small pinch box was found in Mrs Adams’ empty casket. These items were taken by the Crime Laboratory.”

Images from FindaGrave also featured news articles about Ed Gein’s crimes, and what happened to Eleanor’s body. Disturbingly, Cosmopolitan reports that Ed Gein was buried just meters away from Eleanor Adams’ grave.

“It’s crazy because children in the family line got babysat by Ed Gein, and from all the stories that I’ve heard, and they do still talk about this, he seemed like a pretty nice guy. He didn’t seem bad, just kind of odd,” Taylor added.

Taylor wasn’t aware of what happened to her great-great-grandma’s body after it was exhumed, but in the show, she was seen as one of the women alongside Adeline during her classes on how to be a proper lady.
