About the Eastern Cape Treasury External Bursary Programme 2026
The Eastern Cape Provincial Treasury has identified strategic training and development needs that will strengthen the department’s capacity and improve service delivery. Through this bursary scheme, the department aims to support students pursuing priority qualifications that align with its core business areas, including Financial Management, Financial Management Systems, Accounting, and Economic Policy Research and Analysis.
This bursary opportunity is focused on empowering young people—especially students who remain underrepresented in previous bursary awards—and supporting learners from financially disadvantaged households.
Fields of Study Funded
Bursaries for 2026 will prioritise undergraduate qualifications in the following fields:
- Economics
- Financial Accounting
- Cost and Management Accounting
- Financial Information Systems
- Information Technology
- Internal Auditing
- Supply Chain Management
Bursary Benefits
Successful applicants will receive a full-time bursary for the 2026 academic year, which covers:
- Tuition fees
- Approved study-related costs
Note: Funding is renewable based on academic performance and funding availability.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Must be a South African citizen and a resident of the Eastern Cape Province
- Must have obtained a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with admission to a Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma
- Must be studying towards an undergraduate degree or national diploma and must have passed all Level 6 or Level 7 (minimum 360 credits)
- Must attach proof of acceptance or registration at a recognised public tertiary institution
- Must demonstrate financial need through proof of family/household income
- Household income must not exceed R467,790 per annum
Minimum NSC Achievement Levels
Applicants must have achieved the following minimum NSC levels (where applicable):
- English Home Language: Level 4
- English First Additional Language: Level 5
- Mathematics: Level 4
- Mathematical Literacy: Level 6
- Accounting: Level 6
- Economics: Level 5
Preference
Priority will be given to:
- Youth applicants
- Students living with disabilities (applicants must indicate the type of disability and attach supporting documents)
- Students who remain underrepresented in previous bursary awards

- Letter of admission/acceptance from the tertiary institution
- South African ID
- Final results (academic results)
- Parents/guardian proof of income
- Proof of residence
If parents are deceased

- An affidavit confirming the legal guardian
