About the Eastern Cape Department of Agriculture Bursary 2026

The Eastern Cape Department of Agriculture is offering bursaries for the 2026 academic year to support deserving and financially needy students pursuing studies in critical agricultural fields. This bursary aims to build future professionals who can contribute to the growth and sustainability of the province’s agricultural sector.


Fields of Study Covered

Bursaries will be awarded for studies towards the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Agricultural Engineering / Bio-Resource Engineering
  • Bachelor of Health Science (BHSc) in Veterinary Technology

Expenses Covered

The bursary will cover the following study-related costs:

  • Registration fees
  • Tuition fees
  • Accommodation
  • Meals
  • Prescribed textbooks

Please note: The bursary does not cover historical debt or outstanding fees.

Bursary recipients will be required to serve the Eastern Cape Department of Agriculture after graduation, for a period equal to the duration of funding received.


Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be currently in Matric (Grade 12) or have completed Matric/NCV
  • For Agricultural Engineering / Bio-Resource Engineering: Mathematics and Physical Science are required subjects
  • For Veterinary Technology: Mathematics, Physical Science, and Life Science are required subjects
  • Must be studying or intending to study in one of the approved fields listed above
  • Must be accepted or provisionally accepted at a registered South African Higher Education Institution
  • Must be unemployed
  • Must be financially needy (household income not exceeding R350,000 per year, or R600,000 for applicants with disabilities)
  • Preference will be given to Eastern Cape residents, unemployed youth, and historically disadvantaged individuals (however, students from other provinces may also apply).

Submit your completed application form along with the following compulsory supporting documents:

  • Certified copy of your ID document
  • Matric/NCV latest results (if currently in Matric)
  • Matric/NCV certificate (if completed)
  • Full academic record (if currently studying)
  • Proof of admission, provisional admission, or registration from a higher education institution
  • Proof of residence from your local municipality (not older than 3 months)
  • Parents/guardians’ proof of income: latest payslips, affidavit if unemployed, or proof of social grants
  • Parents/guardians’ ID documents
  • Proof of other bursary or sponsorship (if applicable)
  • Applicants with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.
