DEDEAT Bursary 2026 Overview
The Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT) is offering bursary funding to Eastern Cape students pursuing qualifications in Economic Development and Environmental Management for the 2026 academic year. This bursary supports learners from previously disadvantaged communities who meet academic and residency requirements.
The programme aims to empower young people by providing financial support for tertiary education in strategic fields that promote sustainable economic growth and environmental protection in the province.
Fields of Study Covered by the DEDEAT Bursary
DEDEAT will consider applicants studying or intending to study the following programmes:
Programme: Economic Development
1. Consumer Studies
- Degree in Business Law
2. Energy Studies
- BSc: Energy Studies
- Masters in Renewable & Sustainable Development
3. Manufacturing & Agricultural Sector Development, Urban Planning, Industrial Engineering
- BTech/BSc: Agri-Economics
- Industrial Engineering
- Urban Planning
4. Statistics, Development Infrastructure, Transport Economics
- BCom: Statistics
- BA: Human Ecology and Community Development
- Bachelor of Community Development
- International Studies
- Transport Economics
Programme: Environmental Affairs
1. Pollution & Waste Management
- BSc: Environmental Science (Waste Management)
- BSc: Environmental Science (Air Quality Management)
2. Environmental Research & Policy Development
- Degree in Environmental Policy, Planning, Design, Sociology or Environmental Economics
3. Environmental Management
- Degree in Environmental Management
- Biodiversity Studies
- Coastal or Marine Management
- Climate Change Studies
4. Scientific Studies
- BSc: Environmental Chemistry
- BSc: Marine Biology
Bursary Requirements
All applicants must submit:
- Completed bursary application form
- Certified copy of ID document
- Proof of acceptance or application at a recognised tertiary institution
- Certified Grade 12 results or latest academic transcript
- Parent/guardian’s proof of income (payslip/affidavit)
- Proof of residential address
- Affidavit confirming residency in the Eastern Cape Province
Only applicants who reside in the Eastern Cape will be considered.
Preference Will Be Given To:
- Applicants without any post-matric qualification
- First-time DEDEAT bursary recipients
- Students who have passed all relevant subjects
- First-time second-year applicants who submit their first-year academic results
