Two Metro Police officers from Pretoria were left injured after being attacked by a group of drunk drivers during a night patrol in Pretoria West on Sunday, 12 October 2025.
According to reports, the officers were on a visible policing routine when they noticed a suspicious vehicle with four occupants at the intersection of WF Nkomo Street and Elandsfontein Road.
Upon stopping the vehicle to investigate, the passengers who were allegedly under the influence of alcohol became aggressive and refused to cooperate.
Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) spokesperson Isaac Mahamba has strongly condemned the incident, describing the attack as barbaric and unacceptable.
“Two members were injured during the altercation, prompting a call for backup. When additional officers arrived, the suspects tried to flee by driving off, hitting one of our members and damaging a police vehicle in the process,” said Mahamba.
The suspects were eventually apprehended and detained at a nearby police station. They are expected to appear in court soon on charges of assault, attempted murder, and malicious damage to property.
“The two injured members were taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged. The TMPD remains resolute in protecting its members and will not tolerate any act of violence or disregard for the law,” Mahamba added.
