Day one? Throwback of young Enhle at Black Coffee gig

A throwback image of Enhle Mbali supporting her now ex-husband, Black Coffee, at a music gig has resurfaced following their high-profile divorce.

This comes after a court ruled that the DJ – real name Nkosinathi Maphumalo – has been ordered to pay the mother of his children spousal support as part of their settlement. It also found that no antenuptial contract was valid, and that the couple’s union was in community of property.

The couple married in 2011 in a traditional wedding ceremony, and later announced their split in 2019.

THROWBACK: ENHLE MBALI SUPPORTING BLACK COFFEE

On social media, Black Coffee and Enhle Mbali’s divorce settlement has been a big talking point amongst South Africans.

While some claim that Enhle is not entitled to her ex’s fortune, others have pointed to claims that she supported her partner before his career kicked off. Some have also suggested that Enhle – who publicly stated that her ex-husband cheated on her on multiple occasions during their marriage – held the fort with his household affairs and family life whilst he toured abroad.

On X, an old image of a young Enhle – the mother of his two children – attending a gig with him, has supported this claim. In the image, a fresh-faced Enhle stands against a wall, while Black Coffee chats to fellow DJ, Bongani Mahosana, aka Murdah Bongz.

The picture is dated as 17 February 2007.

X user @YouDunnoVusi captioned the image: “She was there from the beginning, man. It’s not like she married him when he was super rich. She’s the mother of his kids.”

Another, @cathychihera, added: “Enhle Mbali was with Black Coffee for a long time and stuck by him. Is she a bad human for saying it’s enough after he fathered two kids with two different women when they were married?”

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

Enhle Mbali and Black Coffee met on the set of the TV series Tshisa almost two decades ago.

Speaking to TV and radio host Anele Mdoda in 2017, Enhle claimed that the muso had asked her on a date, but she had declined after finding out that he was a DJ.

Eventually, she was persuaded and went to a gig he was playing at, before enjoying their first date chatting at his home until the early hours of the morning.

She said: “I think that night we had to stop at Woolies because all the restaurants were closed. From Woolies, we went to his place and had microwave food, breaking all my rules.”

“I think I left early in the morning, and I thought, ‘I shouldn’t even be doing the walk of shame because I did nothing,’ but it was amazing. From that day on, I thought ‘okay, maybe’.”

A few months later, Black Coffee proposed to her in Santorini, Greece, and a year later, they wed in a traditional marriage ceremony.
