British boxing’s 33-year-old cult hero lost a unanimous decision to 6ft 5in Russian Arslanbek Makhmudov on Saturday night in front of 9,000 Sheffield fight fans.
Barring a few precise left hooks, it was almost a full 12 rounds of punishment for the father of two.
And a handful of ringside pundits called for the White Rhino to hang up his horn — before he risks serious injury in this brutal sport.
Allen claimed in the ring straight after that he was definitely not done with the hurt business.
But in the early hours of yesterday, the veteran admitted the stable of young fighters he trains and manages — as well as kids Betty and George — might help him settle into retirement.
Bloodied and bruised from his fight, South Yorkshire hero Allen said: “I’m back down to British title level, or a third Johnny Fisher fight.
“Or maybe I go on a little tour of the country, having six and eight-rounders, while I wait to see what happens with the British title.
“I think that I’ll box again — but maybe I won’t. I have other things that I do now and I’m not just a fighter.”

It was a crushing defeat for Allen given the potential prizes that were waiting for him if he did beat Makhmudov on Saturday.
SunSport revealed that former world champion Deontay Wilder was open to fighting Allen if he made his way past the Russian.
Makhmudov won thanks to scores of 115-11, 116-110 and 117-109 after a dominant display.
And Allen refused to make excuses for himself after taking plenty of punishment inside the ring.
He said: “He is the scariest looking man I have ever seen but he is a sweetheart.
“The top and bottom is I am not good enough, simple as that. He was too big and too good. It’s a bitter pill to swallow but it’s OK.
“I nearly cried because of the crowd, I had to choke it back. I am not finished.
“I have never been hit or hurt like that in my life. He had me hurt about five times and Jamie wanted to pull me out. But I am a tough man, I have never been down.
“I am not finished, I am not finished. I am not the best but these fans make me feel like I am the best.”
