Democratic Alliance (DA) members Willem Aucamp and Alexandra Abrahams are set to be sworn in as members of the National Executive at the Union Buildings in Tshwane on Monday, 17 November.
DA MEMBERS SET TO BE SWORN IN TO THE NATIONAL EXECUTIVE
Aucamp was announced as the new Minister of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment following the dismissal of Dion George earlier this week. The appointment was made in terms of section 91(3)(b) of the Constitution.
Ramaphosa also named Alexandra Lilian Amelia Abrahams as Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, in line with section 93(1)(a) of the Constitution.
The Presidency confirmed George’s removal on 12 November 2025, after reports surfaced about his dual citizenship in South Africa and the United States. However, sources suggest that his removal had less to do with citizenship and more with his performance as a minister.
“INCOMING LEADERS WILL BE CLOSELY WATCHED”
Aucamp takes over a portfolio central to South Africa’s environmental governance, climate policy, biodiversity protection and management of natural resources. His appointment comes at a time when the department faces mounting pressure to accelerate climate adaptation measures, address illegal fishing and logging, and balance environmental protection with economic priorities in rural and coastal economies.
Abrahams enters the Trade, Industry and Competition portfolio as government continues its push to stimulate industrial growth, attract investment and revive sluggish manufacturing output. Her appointment is also viewed as part of broader efforts to strengthen small-business support, expand export competitiveness and navigate tough global economic headwinds.
The latest cabinet changes come as Ramaphosa continues to recalibrate his executive amid shifting policy priorities in the green economy, trade competitiveness and governance reform. Analysts say the incoming leaders will be closely watched for how quickly they can bring momentum to portfolios that play a critical role in economic recovery and long-term sustainability.
