Cooler conditions and thunderstorm risk are expected in Gauteng

Gauteng residents can expect a mix of clear skies and developing cloud cover tonight. According to the weather update presented by Odirile Modipa, “clear skies ahead of tonight for the central and southern parts of the country, but rainy conditions expected in the northern and eastern parts.”

While much of the province may start the evening dry, cloud cover is expected to thicken as rainfall systems move in from the east and north.

Rainfall and thunderstorm warnings

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to affect Gauteng as part of a rainfall band stretching across Mpumalanga, Limpopo, the Free State, and North West.

Furthermore, the forecast indicates “scattered showers and Thunder showers are expected” over the central interior.

A Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms has been issued, affecting areas extending into Gauteng. These storms may include heavy rainfall, strong winds, and possible hail, particularly during the afternoon.

Overnight temperature

Overnight temperatures are expected to drop to around 15°C in Johannesburg and 16°C in Pretoria. Daytime conditions tomorrow are expected to be cooler than recent days, with cloud cover limiting heating.

Maximum temperatures are expected to reach approximately 25°C in Johannesburg and 27°C in Pretoria.

The forecast indicates that rainy conditions and thunderstorms may persist into tomorrow as weather systems continue to spread across the central interior.

As stated in the update, “tomorrow those raining conditions expected to continue over the central interior.” Residents are advised to remain alert for rapidly changing weather.
