Come and write for the Cambridge Tab!

Firstly, welcome to Cambridge! Freshers week can be overwhelming- a competitive advertisement spree from the university’s various societies vying for new blood- allow the Cambridge Tab to succinctly make its case for why writing for us could be a really rewarding thing to do with your 3 years here (or 2, or 1, or however many you might have left).

Join an honourable tradition here at the Cambridge Tab (the first of the nationwide publication, mind you) and consider applying for our Michaelmas team!

All abilities welcome

Never written for a publication before? Neither had I! The Cambridge Tab is open to writers of all levels of experience, from extensive to none to speak of- and we mean it. Editors in chief Evie and Maddy will be more than happy to get you trained up in the Tab ways if you decide to join the team, and there’s certainly no intense atmosphere of perfectionist tyranny here at the Tab.

Adaptable to YOU

Already committed to a 6am appointment at the boathouse? Never fear- writing for the Tab entails as little or as much of a time commitment as you fancy. Whilst we’d love to welcome new, regular writers to our team, contributions could be as little as once a term, and if you try your hand and find its not for you, no hard feelings! Equally, if you’re a budding career journalist looking to climb the ranks, we’re more than happy to have you.

Furthermore, we’re not just looking for freshers: if you’re a second year looking to mix it up, or an aged third year reflecting on a career of dubious time-management decisions, consider joining the ranks of the Tab to enhance your remaining time here. Good for that CV, too.

Meet like-minded people

Everyone at the Tab is very down to earth and welcoming, and regular socials mean its not all work and no play – join us every other Tuesday at the Regal (Wetherspoons) 8pm, to catch up! Writing for the Tab is a really great shortcut to meeting other budding student writers from across the university, at remote colleges that you might not otherwise venture out to.

Not sure where to start? We can help with that

If ‘journalist’ is a vague ambition for your CV, but you’re not quite sure yet what that would look like for you, writing for the Tab gives opportunities to try your hand across the board: whether niche opinion pieces are something you’re dying to submit, straightforward news write-ups are more up your street, or a passion for the theatre lands you in reviewing, there’s no need to restrict yourself to any one avenue- try as many as you fancy!

Hoping to see many new faces this Michaelmas- Give it a go!

Writer applications are still open – spread the word and tell us what you’d write for The Cambridge Tab here!
