Police in Colesberg have intercepted a major drug trafficking operation on the N1 motorway, leading to the arrest of a 39-year-old foreign national and the seizure of cannabis valued at approximately R12.3 million.
The swift response by members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) occurred early on Thursday, 13 November 2025.
Following an immediate tip-off regarding the possible transport of narcotics, officers operationalised the information and tracked the vehicle heading towards the Eastern Cape.

At roughly 05:00, the vehicle, an Isuzu pickup truck, was successfully intercepted and pulled over near a local petrol station. Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered several bags of cannabis stashed in the back.
The suspect was promptly arrested on the scene.

The Pixley ka Seme District Commissioner, Major General Nomana Mtukushe, was quick to commend her team for their efforts. She also extended her thanks to the community for providing “valuable information regarding criminal activities.”
General Mtukushe issued a stern warning, reiterating that the use of national routes for the transportation of narcotics will not be tolerated. She confirmed that police efforts to curb drug trafficking would be reinforced during the approaching festive season.
The 39-year-old man is expected to appear in court shortly, facing a charge of illegal dealing in drugs.
