City of Tshwane introduces Black Friday for bills

In a bid to boost revenue collection, the City of Tshwane has launched a “Black Friday” debt relief campaign.

This will give residents and businesses a chance to wipe out interest on overdue municipal accounts.

The city announced that the campaign will run throughout November.

Black Friday for bills?

According to the city, anyone who settles their full outstanding balance between 1 and 30 November 2025 will receive a 100% discount on interest charges.

Officials say the special is designed as an incentive, a financial “carrot” for those ready to settle their bills, but warn that enforcement remains active for those who don’t.

Each month, Tshwane’s revenue recovery teams conduct city-wide operations targeting residents and businesses that owe millions in unpaid service accounts.

According to Executive Mayor Nasiphi Moya, the city has already recovered just under R40 million from debtors this November, following an impressive R4 billion collection in October.

“We are determined to increase the city’s revenue collection, particularly following an upbeat performance in October,” Moya said, as per BusinessTech.

The mayor said that the Black Friday campaign is part of Tshwane’s broader effort to improve financial stability and encourage compliance while giving residents a rare opportunity to settle their accounts on favourable terms.
