China has introduced new regulations, effective from 25 October 2025, requiring social media influencers to hold official qualifications before discussing certain professional topics.

Under the new rules, creators producing content on regulated subjects such as medicine, law, education, and finance must present recognised degrees, licences, or certifications as proof of expertise.

Platforms including Douyin (China’s version of TikTok), Bilibili, and Weibo are now responsible for verifying these credentials and ensuring that relevant content includes proper citations and disclaimers.

The move forms part of a broader initiative by the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) aimed at curbing misinformation and protecting the public from harmful or misleading content.

The regulations also require influencers to clearly label AI-generated content and prohibit covert advertising presented as educational material.

The Siz The World team recently shared their thoughts on what China’s new influencer law could mean for the future of online content creation.
