Gittens, 20, was the subject of a £42million bid from the Blues earlier this month.

Dortmund rejected the offer for the former Manchester City youth star.

But according to The Telegraph, Chelsea are ready to come back in, with Dortmund valuing Gittens around £55m.

The two clubs are set for a face-to-face meeting during the tournament in the USA.

Gittens has a seven-year contract on the table from the Blues.

And Dortmund “expect Gittens to move to Chelsea”, with the only current stumbling block the 20-year-old’s fee.

Gittens – who spent time at Chelsea’s academy – had spells with Reading and City’s youth sides before moving to Germany and progressing into Dortmund’s first-team.

He enjoyed a breakthrough season last term, netting 8 goals in 32 Bundesliga matches.

But Dortmund are happy to move on from Gittens, who does not fit naturally into new boss Niko Kovac’s preferred system.

Bayern Munich are also said to be interested, with reports they could look to hijack any deal after losing out on Florian Wirtz to Liverpool.

Chelsea are eager to improve their wing options, with Christopher Nkunku looking set to leave Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Maresca’s side have been linked with a move for Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho.

The Argentine appears set on leaving Old Trafford, angering fans by posing in an Aston Villa shirt during his recent holiday.

Boss Maresca admitted it had been “impossible” to train in Philly over the weekend as temperatures soared towards 40C.

He said: “It is almost impossible to train or to make a session because of the weather.

“I always try to avoid excuses. I always try to be honest. It’s not about excuses, it’s about reality.

“It’s an excuse when it’s not hot and we say that it’s hot. That is an excuse. But if hot, it’s hot.

“It’s difficult to work with these temperatures but we are here and we are trying to do our best and we will try to win tomorrow.”
