Attention, motorists, cyclists and frequent travellers: Cape Town’s scenic Chapman’s Peak Drive will be closed every Wednesday until the end of November 2025.
The iconic road, which stretches along the winding coastline between Noordhoek and Hout Bay, closed last Wednesday, 1 October 2025, from 10:00 to 16:00. This closure will continue today (Wednesday, 8 October) during the same hours.
This will enable teams from the SANParks Alien Vegetation clearing unit to safely remove invasive alien vegetation along the slopes. Similar efforts were carried out by SANParks earlier this year during the months of February and March.
This helps mitigate fire risks and safeguards the local fynbos ecosystem that comprises the Cape Floral Kingdom. Alien species, in particular, can cause significant damage to our local biodiversity. These can severely disrupt fynbos’ natural fire cycles.
CHAPMAN’S PEAK DRIVE CLOSURE: NOTE THE DATES
Chapman’s Peak Drive will be closed on the following dates:
- October: 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th.
- November: 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th.
If you frequently drive on this road, you are advised to use alternate routes between 10:00 and 16:00. These routes include Ou Kaapse Weg if you’re travelling from Noordhoek and Constantia Nek if you’re travelling from Hout Bay.
STAY SAFE AND SUPPORT CONSERVATION ON CHAPMAN’S PEAK DRIVE
It may feel like an inconvenience having to avoid using this road during the midweek. This is especially irksome if you’re a resident and need to travel to and from home for either work or recreational purposes.
However, not only will using alternate routes ensure your safety, but it will also bolster current conservation efforts to protect Cape Town’s vital flora.
If you’re planning to navigate Chapman’s Peak Drive as a visiting tourist or a nature enthusiast, strongly consider carrying out your trip on Chapman’s Peak Drive on alternative days.
