Forget your tumble dryer, this buy from The Range will dry clothes indoors this winter and is currently only £1.99

WITH the drop in temperatures, most Brits are now drying their laundry indoors.

Thankfully, a budget buy from The Range can help to speed up this process.

A light grey clothes airer with two raised racks.
The Range
The Range has slashed 50% off the price of airer dryer shelves to just £1.99 for a pack of two[/caption]

Whether you’re navigating laundry for your entire household or just yourself, it can be difficult to keep on top of the seemingly never-ending chore.

And with the cost of living crisis, most Brits are taking measures to cut down on their household bills.

This includes opting for air drying methods over tumble dryers, which are known to significantly rack up your energy costs.

Product details

Now, The Range shoppers can pick up a two-pack of Indoor Airer Drying Shelves for just £1.99, reduced from £3.99.

According to the product description, these shelves will “make your airer more functional”.

You can easily attach each shelf to your airer, creating more space for drying your clothes.

Manufacturers described the attachments as a “must-have for drying delicate items and keeping smaller pieces together”.

“They’re a perfect fit for the heated airers, allowing you to make the most of your drying space,” the description reads.

They can also be easily rolled up and stored away after use, making them ideal for smaller spaces.

The shelves measure 82 centimetres by 50 centimetres, weighing just 100 grams.

Cut down costs

Marc Porcar, tech expert at QR Code Generator, revealed that your washer-dryer costs an average of £109.35 per year to run.

This is approximately 12% of a typical energy bill.

“The high usage of water and electricity required to heat it, combined with lengthy cycles, makes these appliances expensive to operate,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Ian Palmer-Smith, an appliance expert at Domestic & General, named tumble dryers as one of the gadgets draining your wallet when left plugged in.

It continues to use electricity when plugged in so failing to turn it off between spins could cost you an additional £5 a year.

More winter laundry tips

Tackling laundry in the winter can be a challenge, but these handy tips can help you stay on top of it:

  • Use a Dehumidifier: Place a dehumidifier in your drying area to speed up the drying process and prevent dampness.
  • Spin Cycle Boost: Run an extra spin cycle on your washing machine to remove excess water from clothes, reducing drying time.
  • Indoor Drying Rack: Invest in a good-quality indoor drying rack and position it near a radiator or in a well-ventilated room.
  • Tumble Dryer Balls: Add tumble dryer balls to your dryer to help clothes dry faster and reduce static cling.
  • Space-Saving Hangers: Use space-saving hangers or a retractable washing line to maximise indoor drying space.
  • Microfibre Towels: Lay microfibre towels over your drying rack to absorb extra moisture from hanging clothes.
  • Partially Dry Outside: On dry days, hang clothes outside for a short period before bringing them in to finish drying.

These hacks can help you keep your laundry routine efficient and your clothes fresh, even during the colder months.

Households urged to claim £473 from HMRC as letters land on doormats – 11 payslip codes that reveal if you’re due cash

HMRC is urging households to claim back hundreds of pounds worth of cash.

The tax office has sent out letters to inform a number of households about an income tax refund they are owed.

There are several reasons you may have overpaid your tax, such as being put on the wrong tax code, starting to receive a pension at work, or receiving Employment and Support Allowance or Jobseekers’ Allowance.

Between June and August, the tax man sent out around four million P800 letters informing people that they are due a refund.

And now HMRC has taken to social media to encourage households to claim money they are due back.

In a statement the office said: “Received a letter saying you have a tax refund to claim?

“There could be an average of £473 waiting for you. Download the HMRC app to find out how you can claim it.”

If you receive a letter there should be a link included that will let you choose which bank account you want your refund paid into.

Households can also download the HMRC app and complete the return via their smart phone or tablet.

Customers who have downloaded the app can also track their tax via the app to ensure they are on the right tax code.

If you’ve received a letter but don’t have access to a computer or phone with internet, you can contact HMRC via phone or post.

The phone number to call is 0300 200 3300 while any post should be addressed to:

  • Pay As You Earn and Self Assessment
  • HM Revenue and Customs
  • BX9 1AS
  • United Kingdom

It is also important to check your payslip regularly to ensure you are on the right tax code and not overpaying.

What are the different tax codes?

Your tax code indicates how much you should be paying out to HMRC each month.

Below we have explained what the different codes mean:

  • L – You’re entitled to the standard tax-free Personal Allowance
  • M – Marriage Allowance: you’ve received a transfer of 10% of your partner’s personal allowance (£1,260)
  • N – Marriage Allowance: you’ve transferred 10 per cent of your personal allowance to your partner
  • S – Your income or pension is taxed using the rates in Scotland
  • T – Your tax code includes other calculations to work out your personal allowance, for example, it’s been reduced because your estimated annual income is more than £100,000
  • 0T – Your personal allowance (which is currently £12,570) has been used up, or you’ve started a new job and your employer doesn’t have the details they need to give you a tax code
  • BR – All your income from this job or pension is taxed at the basic rate (usually used if you’ve got more than one job or pension)
  • D0 – All your income from this job or pension is taxed at the higher rate (usually used if you’ve got more than one job or pension)
  • D1 – All your income from this job or pension is taxed at the additional rate (usually used if you’ve got more than one job or pension)
  • NT – You’re not paying any tax on this income
  • Tax codes starting with K mean you have income that isn’t being taxed another way and it’s worth more than your tax-free allowance.

If HMRC does not receive information about your workplace or salary changes, then sometimes it will fail to change your tax code.

This means the perfect time to check is when you’ve moved.

If you reckon you’ve been landed with the wrong tax code, you should contact HMRC sooner rather than later.

The quickest way to do this is typically via the phone on 0300 200 3300.

How do I check my tax code?

YOU can check your tax code on your personal tax account online, on any payslips or on the HMRC app.

To log in, visit www.gov.uk/personal-tax-account.

If you have one, you can also check it on a “Tax Code Notice” letter from HMRC.

Bear in mind that you might need your Government Gateway ID and password to hand to log in.

But if you don’t have this you can use your National Insurance number or postcode and two of the following:

  • A valid UK passport
  • A UK photocard driving licence issued by the DVLA (or DVA in Northern Ireland)
  • A payslip from the last three months or a P60 from your employer for the last tax year
  • Details of a tax credit claim if you have made one
  • Details from a self assessment tax return (in the last two years) if you made one
  • Information held on your credit record if you have one (such as loans, credit cards or mortgages)

Who is Elsa Rae?

Elsa Rae is a TikToker and member of the 2025 Big Brother cast.

21-year-old content creator Elsa Rae is no stranger to the limelight — she is the ex-girlfriend of controversial internet personality Ed Matthews.

Elsa regularly appeared alongside the best pal of HSTikkyTokky in his TikTok livestreams and videos.

These often captured the former couple as they went about their day, including clips of them travelling together and Ed helping Elsa brush her hair.

She has also built up a big following in her own right, with more than 125,000 fans on both TikTok and Instagram, as of September 2025.

She also boasts over 2.7 million likes and almost 50,000 followers on TikTok.

Before entering the Big Brother house, Elsa told ITV: “I saw an advertisement to apply on TikTok, and I thought, ‘okay, I’m just going to apply.

“Like, I’m just going to do it’. I feel like you’re only 21 once. And why not!”

She thinks her fellow housemates and fans of the show may be surprised to learn she has a ‘tomboy side’.

She told BB producers: “But I’m not sure if people are going to get to see that in the House. Also, my spiritual side. I’ve recently become religious.”

What is Ed Matthews’ boxing record?

Ed has a boxing record of 2-2-0. This means he has fought four times, winning two, losing two and drawing none.

He has a knockout ratio of 50 per cent.

Ed’s first fight was against Simple Simon.

The fight came about after a beef between Ed and Simon, which originated from Matthews accusing Simon of exploiting the career of Cal The Dragon to further his own ambitions.

Things got heated when Ed mentioned Simon’s daughter and ex-wife during the build up to the fight.

The actual fight ended with Ed knocking out Simple Simon in 48 seconds of the first round, with the referee counting Simon out after suffering a heavy knockdown.

Since this initial win Ed was beaten twice, once by Blueface the rapper and again by Luis Pineda.

However as a professional he has one win under his belt, which came against Swarmz in October 2023.

I ate at the No.1 restaurant in all of London on TripAdvisor – and found a tiny Eastenders-like cafe with bargain food

SOME of the best food spots are in the places you’d least suspect, which is what I found when I went to Tripadvisor’s top-rated restaurant in London.

It’s number one out of over 20,000 restaurants in the city, and yet is dubbed as London’s ‘best kept secret’.

Two people smiling and giving a thumbs up in a small cafe.

I popped into De Vine and was welcomed by its lovely owner, Sid[/caption]

There are lots of lunch options and an all-day breakfast too[/caption]

With over a thousand five star reviews and a solid top score on Tripadvisor, I had to check out the London caff.

The first challenge is finding it as De Vine Restaurant Coffee Bar is tucked underneath the Fenchurch Street railway bridge.

As first impressions go, my very first thought was ‘this is something straight out of EastEnders‘.

Heading inside made me feel more like I was in a classic East London caff.

It had just 12 tables and there was the atmospheric sound of clinking mugs and the smell of cooking bacon.

Entering De Vine felt like I had left central London completely.

Walking in, I was immediately greeted by the lovely owner Sid who runs the cafe alongside his wife.

It quickly became clear that the cafe was a spot frequented by regulars as Sid called over to one man who came in behind us and asked if he wanted his ‘usual’.

Taking a seat I had a peek at the double-sided menu and although the cafe might be small, there’s a lot to choose from.

At the very front of the cafe is the hot food counter where there are huge jacket potatoes with a choice of toppings and enormous freshly-made paninis.

A woman smiles while holding a cup of coffee and sitting at a table with a plate of food.

You might miss it as De Vine is tucked away under a railway bridge[/caption]

Chatting with another customer, she told me that she was a regular and never strayed from the De Vine’s breakfast sandwich.

She even went as far as to say it was the “best she’d ever had”.

The breakfast sandwich comes with options for one, two or three fillings ranging from £4.70 to £6.30.

You can choose from egg, sausage, bacon, cheese, mushrooms, hash brown, black pudding and avocado.

One of Devine Restaurant’s most popular meals is the all-day breakfast, in particular, the ‘Full Monty’.

With this you get two fried eggs, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, tomato, baked beans, chips, toast and either a tea or coffee for £14 – and the generous portions won’t disappoint either.

Other options include the ‘Full English’ which you can get for £10, as is the vegetarian option.

There’s also a choice of omelette which comes with chips or salad and baked beans from £9.

The amount of returning customers says a lot about the cafe[/caption]

What I went for, at Sid’s suggestion, was a toasted panini with breaded chicken, melted brie and sweet chilli sauce with a side of chips.

But there were lots of other choices too from tuna and mozzarella to Parma ham, sundried tomatoes and basil.

When I asked for a cappuccino alongside it, Sid excitedly told me it would be the best I’ve ever tasted.

Just minutes later he brought me back a frothy coffee with a dusting of chocolate in a white mug.

It was up there with the best, warm, rich and not too sweet – drinks are very reasonably priced, a cappuccino or latte will set you back just £3.

When my lunch order came, I’ll admit it was nothing to shout about presentation wise, but the proof is in the taste.

The panini was lovely and warm with crispy chicken, a generous amounts of brie and the sweet tang of the chilli sauce – but nothing overpowered the other.

A display case filled with a salad bar, featuring various toppings like shredded lettuce, cucumber, sweetcorn, bell peppers, coleslaw, diced meat, and large jacket potatoes, with a sign for "Salad Bar" and "Jacket Potato."

Check out the hot food counter too which serves jacket potatoes[/caption]

As for the chips, they were just as I like them – crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

Sid came over a few times to check everything was to my liking, which of course it was, and just a general chat – again something you’re more likely to find in a smaller community.

It’s something Sid’s known for too as plenty of other visitors praised the caff for its customer service.

In fact, that’s what it’s most highly-rated for on Tripadvisor – a friendly vibe goes a long way, especially in the city and that’s where this delightful tiny caff shines.

Along with an affordable, simple but tasty menu, you can’t go wrong – I’d say number one spot at this family-run spot is well-deserved.

For more great foodie spots, here are the three restaurants on a train, boat and treehouse named among the best in the world by TripAdvisor.

And to get tasty food abroad, here’s how Cyann Fielding finds the cheapest place to eat in every city she visits.

Watch MAFS UK’s ‘first couple swap’ at explosive dinner party as Sarah eyes up another groom after fat-shaming husband

MAFS UK fans spot bride Sarah shamelessly eyeing up another groom at a dramatic dinner party – just days after fat-shaming her husband.

The shocking scenes saw Sarah openly slam her husband for not being attractive or her usual type.

Sarah appeared jealous of Joe and Maeve’s loved-up relationship[/caption]

The experts watched Sarah tell everyone how disappointed she was with her new husband Dean at the first dinner party of the series.

They were left disgusted at her behaviour, saying she was acting disrespectfully towards Dean, who was sitting in the same room nearby.

Sarah told everyone she spoke to that there was “no spark” or “attraction there” and doesn’t think there ever will be.

The girls confirmed that she had the “ick” while the boys persuaded her to give him a chance as he is a “lovely guy”.

But Sarah wasn’t too hopeful and felt worse watching the other couples around her being loved-up.

Sarah described her type as “tan, tall and tatted”.

So when Joe walked in, viewers predicted he would be more her type and into him more than Dean.

Sarah appeared disappointed when Joe and Maeve informed her that their marriage was going amazingly well and were “obsessed” with each other.

Viewers spotted the moment Sarah’s eyes lit up when they kissed at the dinner table.

Shortly after, Dean performed another one of his raps, which Sarah told him to do less of on their honeymoon together in the Maldives, as it “annoyed” her.

The others appeared to enjoy it and applauded Dean, but Sarah seemed less than impressed.

She then told the others that Dean described himself as the “funny fat kid” and asked if she’d been with anyone “bigger.”

Viewers and the experts were shocked as they saw Sarah tear Dean down once again.

This is not the first time that Sarah has landed herself in hot water on the show due to the alleged ‘fat shaming’.

On her wedding day, Sarah admitted that Dean wasn’t her dream man – as she branded him “over the top” and saying she “didn’t fancy him” or want to “rip his clothes off”.

Sarah confessed on their honeymoon that she has never dated anyone as “big” as Dean, which came as a huge blow.

In order to feel a “spark” with Dean, Sarah said he would have to “get some tattoos, lose some weight,” as droves of viewers slammed her cruel delivery.

A sneak preview of tonight’s episode saw Paul call out Sarah for her disrespect towards Dean as she continued to bash him while he was in the same room.

Sarah will be reduced to tears as she explains: “That’s not who I am.”

Will Sarah and Dean ever make it out of the friend zone?

Or will she get closer to other groom Joe – who is her type to a tee?

Married at First Sight airs Sunday to Thursday at 9pm on E4.

Warning to Brits over £1,000 fine for parking on their own DRIVEWAYS

LOCALS risk being slapped with an eye watering fine of £1,000 for simply parking in their own driveways.

Residents in Southampton could be hit with the hefy fees if they park their motors in their front drive if there is no dropped kerb.

LONDON – May 21, 2022: Traffic warden uses smartphone next to traditional red British Post Box[/caption]

The fresh ruling sparked outrage from the city’s opposition councillors.

Conservative group leader Councillor Peter Baillie opposed the move, while Labour cabinet member for transport Councillor Christie Lambert defended the rule’s implementation.

Local authorities have the power to fine anyone illegally using a vehicle to cross a footway to gain access to an address under the Highways Act 1980.

Councillor Lambert explained that highway inspectors from infrastructure group Balfour Beatty will issue a warning if homeowners park their vehicle on a driveway where it must have driven over the footway illegally to get there.

After multiple separate notices are sent out and locals still don’t address the issue, they will be slapped with a fine.

Councillor Baillie raised the issue with follow up questions at the full council meeting on September 24.

He said: “Is it acceptable to be sending residents the letters saying that they may receive a £1,000 fine if we have never actually prosecuted any and got a £1,000 fine issued?

“By the sounds of the email I received we have no intention of doing that.”

Councillor Lambert responded: “You can’t have a go at us for not enforcing things and then have a go at us for enforcing things. It is our right to enforce the legislation.”

It’s not the first time residents have been threatened with fines for parking on their own property.

In March, furious homeowners accused their council of using them as ‘cash cows’ after they were fined for parking on their own driveways.

Lambeth Council’s “Kerbside strategy” has marked nearly 200 homes in Streatham Vale with “illegal crossovers” – where vehicles are accessing properties without approved dropped kerbs.

The south London council is demanding that residents pay up to £4,000 to make their driveways official by changing the kerbs.

The reason behind the eye-wateringly expensive scheme is to “support resilience to the climate emergency” and “free unrestricted parking has an impact on our climate”, according to the authority.

Lambeth council said that the four per cent of cars parking “off street” with “unauthorised vehicle access” could clash with plans for bike parking, curbside seating and flower boxes.

According to The Telegraph, a council pamphlet told homeowners: “If these accesses are not formalised in accordance with the council’s policy, then parking bays may be placed in front of them, blocking access.”

A council spokesperson said: “It is illegal to drive a vehicle over the pavement without having an authorised vehicle crossover.

“This requires a resident to make an application, gain approval and pay for the works to adapt the highway to enable safe access.”

Rules around where drivers can and cannot park

RULE 243 of the Highway Code explains where drivers can and cannot park.

It is actually not “your right” to park in front of your property unless you have a designated parking space and although it might be tempting you’re not allowed to save “your” space with a cone either.

Leaving anything on the road can be classed as an obstruction and is illegal – unless you’ve been given permission by the council.

Any member of the public can park on your street, provided it isn’t governed by residents’ parking permits and as long as they are complying with restrictions and not causing obstructions.

If your street uses permits, anyone with the right permit can park anywhere in the relevant zone.

There’s also no law on how long someone can park in the same space for, unless police think the car has been abandoned.
