I may have to BIN my sofa after a viral TikTok trend went horribly wrong – people say I ‘should’ve just bought a throw’

A DIY enthusiast has revealed that she may have to bin her sofa after trying a viral TikTok trend that went horribly wrong.

Rather than splashing the cash on a new sofa, a savvy mum from the UK decided to try her hand at a popular social media hack.

However, things didn’t quite go to plan for the content creator, who is now debating whether to throw her once-loved piece of furniture away for good.

In a short clip shared online, the mother, who claimed that she is “winging life on the daily,” shared a close-up look at the DIY hack that ended unexpectedly.

The mother, who is known online as ‘Mrs Munday,’ explained that rather than spending hundreds of pounds on a trendy olive green sofa, she attempted to give her old grey sofa an upgrade on a budget.

Eager to show off her love of upcycling, the mother used her “free will” and ordered some fabric paint from Fabricoat in the shade Olive.

Instead of covering her sofa with throws, she used the entire tub of paint, as she said: “This is definitely a trust the process moment.”

Showing off the sofa after one coat, she gasped: “Patchy as hell – needs more coats.”

Unsure if the viral hack was a good idea, the mother then acknowledged: “May have to order a new sofa.”

Reflecting on her decision to paint her sofa, she continued: “Have I made a mistake? Wish I wasn’t so impulsive sometimes.”

Despite her regret, the mother confirmed that painting her sofa didn’t make it “crispy.”

She explained that she spent £59 on the paint and used a soft bristle brush to apply it to the sofa cushions.

As well as this, the mother recognised that it takes seven days for the paint to fully cure and then, once it is cured, the sofa can be washed and cleaned as normal.

Following this, once it is dried, the paint will not rub off onto clothing

Despite her uncertainty at her now green sofa, Mrs Munday doesn’t care that people “hate the colour.”

In fact, she likes the shade of her patchy sofa and confirmed it “beats grey.”

Social media users react

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @behindthecartz, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as at the time of writing, it had quickly racked up 420,100 views, 3,231 likes and 429 comments in just 24 hours.

But social media users were left totally divided by the sofa overhaul project – while some thought it looked “bad” and wondered what the mother was thinking, others “loved” it.

One person said: “That’s bad.”

Another added: “On today’s list of things I will never do!”

A third commented: “Should not have trusted the process. Ruined sofa and a bill incoming for the new one.”

In response, the mother replied: “Oh well.”

Not only this, but someone else asked: “What were you thinking?”

Meanwhile, another wondered: “Why didn’t you just buy a couple of throws.”

But to this, the DIY fan wrote back and shared: “I did have throws. But I wanted to change the colour.”

However, others were impressed with the colour of the mother’s upgraded sofa.

One user beamed: “So much better. Grey sofas should be banned.”

A second chimed in: “I actually love it.”

Whilst another penned: “I’m gonna lie, it looks great.”

A cold sore spread to my brain & put me in coma… I woke up & couldn’t remember last 5 years, my boyfriend was a stranger

WAKING up in hospital, Georgia Lee felt groggy, with no idea how she’d ended up there.

While her dad, Gary was by her bedside, she had no idea who the man sitting to her left was.

Georgia Lee, a young woman who lost her memory due to encephalitis, smiles from a doorway.

But he wasn’t a nurse or a doctor but rather her long-term boyfriend Laurence Calvert.

Just three weeks earlier, the then 22-year-old uni student had been struck down with encephalitis, a dangerous inflammation of the brain.

The rare condition was caused by a cold sore in her throat, before the herpes virus spread to her brain.

But while Georgia survived against all odds, she had lost five years of her memory believing that she was 17 and studying for her A-levels.

Not only did she have no recollection of Laurence but she also had no memory of her uni degree, or passing her driving test.

Over the following months, she got to know Laurence, eventually going on a ‘first’ date.

Slowly, she fell in love all over again.

Now Georgia, who has never regained those memories, is speaking out to raise awareness of the potentially life-threatening condition.

The 29-year-old, from Milton Keynes, explains: “I woke up thinking I was still 17.

“It was so shocking to learn that I was actually 22, had a boyfriend and had just finished university.

“It was upsetting to lose that much time of my life and special milestones.”

In August 2018, Georgia was experiencing headaches and for two weeks she had pain in the same spot of her forehead.

She remembers: “It was constant and I couldn’t shift it- even with painkillers and rest.”

Then, one night, while her boyfriend of two years, Laurence, was at a festival, she sent him a message.

But not making sense, he called her dad to check on her.

She says: “Dad told me that I was in my bedroom acting delusional.

“So he called an ambulance and I was rushed to hospital.”

At Milton Keynes Hospital, doctors suspected Georgia had meningitis.

But after suffering a seizure, further tests revealed she had encephalitis.

Georgia was given drugs to reduce the swelling on her brain.

The next thing she remembers was coming around in hospital after nearly a month.

Her dad was there along with Laurence but, to her, he was a complete stranger.

When he announced he was her boyfriend, Georgia was shocked.

She says: “I had no recollection of even meeting him and genuinely thought I was still in sixth form.

“To know that someone else knew everything about me, and I knew nothing about them was really hard.”

Over the next few months, Georgia got to know Laurence again.

He showed her pictures of their time together and recalled how they’d met at Fresher’s week.

She explains: “He told me we’d met at a club during the first week of uni and that during a song, I’d ran my hands through his curly hair.

“It was a funny story and made me laugh.”

In November that year, Laurence took her on a ‘first date’ for dinner at a pub nearby her house.

Georgia explains: “We were both a bit nervous to begin with.

“But he told me more stories of our time together, and showed me holiday pictures of trip to Greece and told me about his family.

“It was a lovely first date.”

In January 2019, she attended her graduation ceremony at Canterbury Christ Church University for the Animal Science and Business degree she’d completed.

Yet she found herself greeting people she didn’t remember.

She says: “It was a strange day, with many people coming up to me saying ‘hello’ and me having to pretend I knew them.

“It was pretty draining.

“Then having to go up on stage and collect my certificate when I didn’t remember learning any of it.”

In time, Georgia and Laurence shared their ‘first kiss’ and she began falling in love with him all over again.

She says: “Laurence was so respectful and took things slowly.

“I appreciate how hard it must’ve been for him to be starting over again.

“He told me later that he was nervous I wouldn’t find him attractive and that it wouldn’t work out.

“Thankfully, that wasn’t the case.”

Eventually, Georgia learnt to drive again after originally passing her test at 18.

Seven years on, Georgia’s memory has never fully returned.

Along with the memory loss, Georgia, now a care assistant at a vets, lost her sense of taste and smell – neither of which have recovered.

She says: ”I have no sense of smell at all. I can taste really spicy and sweet food but that’s about it.

What is encephalitis?

Encephalitis is an uncommon but serious condition where the brain becomes inflamed.

It can be life threatening and requires urgent treatment in hospital.

Anyone can be affected, but very young or very old people are most at risk.

Encephalitis usually starts off with flu-like symptoms, such as a high temperature and headache.

More serious symptoms come on over hours, days or weeks, including:

  • Confusion or disorientation
  • Seizures or fits
  • Changes in personality and behaviour
  • Difficulty speaking
  • Weakness or loss of movement in some parts of the body
  • Loss of consciousness

Dial 999 for an ambulance immediately if you or someone else has these serious symptoms.

It’s not always clear what causes encephalitis, but it can be caused by:

  • Viral infections – very rarely, encephalitis may be caused by the common viruses that causes cold sores (herpes simplex) or chickenpox (herpes varicella) spreading to the brain
  • A problem with the immune system, the body’s defence against infection – sometimes something goes wrong with the immune system and it mistakenly attacks the brain, causing it to become inflamed
  • Bacterial or fungal infections – these are much rarer causes of encephalitis than viral infections

Some types of encephalitis are spread by mosquitoes, ticks (such as tick-borne encephalitis) and mammals (such as rabies).

“When I can’t taste something, I cover everything in either hot sauce, tomato ketchup or sweet chilli sauce to strengthen the flavour.

“Essentially I eat to survive now and rely on my step mum to buy me perfume.”

In June 2023, Laurence proposed on holiday in Greece which he captured on video.

Now Georgia documents everything to keep her memories alive.

She explains: “I have dozens of scrapbooks and pictures.

“I’m meticulous at documenting my experiences now.”

Over the years, Georgia has raised more than £10,000 for Encephalitis International charity- completing a Marathon in Milton Keynes this May.

Fiance, Laurence, 29, says: “Before I saw Georgia, the doctor warned me that she wouldn’t know who I was.

“Yet I’d always hoped when she saw me something might come back. Sadly, it never did.

“I was nervous that, as she recovered, she might decide that being together wasn’t something she wanted, but I was always confident that we were meant to be together.

“The hardest thing I’ve ever had to deal with is being forgotten by the women I loved.

“Georgia has been so good at understanding the impact it had on me as well.

“Our relationship is 100 times stronger because of what we had to deal with.”

The Encephalitis Society estimates, that every year it affects around 500,000 people worldwide – with about 6,000 of those cases coming from the UK.

Boyzone to reunite for huge one-off 2026 stadium show with emotional tribute to Stephen Gately

SUMMER 2025 may be on the way out but already there is reason to look forward to next year.

After years apart, all original members of Boyzone are finally reuniting for their biggest ever headline show.

Boyzone members Mikey Graham, Keith Duffy, Ronan Keating, Stephen Gately, and Shane Lynch in a group photo from 1995.
Boyzone’s gig has been billed as the only place to see the group live next year – and will include an emotional tribute to the late Stephen Gately

Stephen died on 10 October 2009, while on holiday in Majorca, Spain. He was just 33[/caption]

The group will take to the stage for their One For The Road: Live At Emirates Stadium in London on Saturday June 6.

Unlike with Oasis‘ huge reunion shows this summer, Boyzone’s gig has been billed as the only place to see the group live next year.

So don’t expect to see extra gigs popping up across the country.

Though, I wouldn’t be surprised if an extra London date or two is added when their initial show inevitably sells out.

If it wasn’t going to be an emotional enough night seeing the guys back together one more time, I’m told that Ronan Keating, Mikey Graham, Keith Duffy and Shane Lynch are also set to pray tribute to Stephen Gately during the show.

The show comes hot on the heels of the warts and all documentary Boyzone: No Matter What on Sky

Boyzone said: “We’ve been truly blown away and humbled by the response to the documentary this year.

“The love we’ve felt from fans all over the world has inspired us to create the ultimate experience together, headlining our own stadium show.

“The four of us can’t wait to stand together again and enjoy One For The Road.”

It’s not an exaggeration to say Boyzone have soundtracked our lives.

The group clocked up a staggering 17 consecutive UK Top 10 hits from 1994 to 2008.

Fans can register for an exclusive pre-sale now and general sale tickets go on sale 9am October 10.

You can bet my alarm will be set.

‘Not Man City?’ – Jose Mourinho coy after he’s grilled over Chelsea’s historic financial charges on return to London

JOSE MOURINHO dismissed a question related to the 74 charges that Chelsea are facing for alleged breaches of agents regulations under Roman Abramovich.

The FA released a statement earlier this month confirming their decision to bring the host of charges related to the period between 2009 and 2022.

The statement read: “The Football Association has today charged Chelsea FC with breaches of regulations J1 and C2 of the FA Football Agent regulations, regulations A2 and A3 of the FA Regulations on Working with Intermediaries and regulations A1 and B3 of the FA Third Party Investment in Players Regulations.

“In total, 74 charges have been brought against Chelsea FC.

“Conduct that is the subject of the charges ranges from 2009 to 2022 and finality relates to events which occurred between the 2010-11 the 2015-16 playing seasons.”

Legendary Portuguese boss Mourinho was at the helm for five of the years in question across two stints with the club.

This led to him being grilled in regard to the charges at a pre-match press conference for new club Benfica‘s Champions League clash with the Blues at Stamford Bridge.

He was asked if it would be unfair to punish the club, and potentially strip them of accolades, as a result of the alleged off-pitch offences.

But Mourinho was coy in his short and sweet response, refusing to get involved with the conversation surrounding the charges, and instead dragging another club’s legal battle into focus.

His blunt riposte read: “Not Man City?”

City are waiting for a verdict on their own case with the FA, in which they were charged with 115 regulations breaches in early 2023.

A three-month hearing related to the charges went ahead between September and December of last year, but no verdict has been given as yet.

Mourinho additionally distanced himself from the situation at Chelsea, saying he was unaware of the case against his former club.

He continued: “I have no idea about it. I have no idea of what the charges are. I will try to understand it.”

‘The Special One’ won three Premier League titles at Stamford Bridge, as well as an FA Cup and three League Cups.

He has also managed the likes of Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur in his extensive career.

But he now has the chance to haunt Chelsea and pile the pressure on Enzo Maresca, as he faces the Blues in just his fourth game as Benfica boss.
