Cape Town weather can be unpredictable. However, this weekend is going to be a banger, and that’ll extend into next week.
Beach season as Cape Town weather continues to show off
Holidaymakers from Joburg might be starting to filter home, and Christmas is over, but the party doesn’t stop in Cape Town. Sea Point is densely populated with digital nomads from Germany, the Netherlands, and the rest of the world. Friday, 9 January, could be a windy one on the Atlantic Seaboard, especially towards Camps Bay, but the bottom of Bantry Bay and Sea Point generally seem immune to the notorious Cape Doctor. Although you never REALLY know what you’re going to get in Cape Town, Saturday and Sunday will both be extremely hot and windless, so pack sunscreen and avoid driving at all costs as there will very likely be bumper-to-bumper traffic from Sea Point to the start of Bakoven, especially in the late afternoon hours. Monday looks hot too, and the same goes for Tuesday and Wednesday. Does summer on the seaboard ever end?
Get your ass up Lion’s Head
If you’re a Capetonian, then you’ve probably scaled Lion’s Head at least once this week. It’s no wonder that it’s a popular hiking route, given the sensational views. It’s also relatively easy and only takes up a couple of hours of your time. If you go this weekend, go as early as humanly possible to avoid the heat and the heavy human traffic. There are also several other easy hiking options if the beach isn’t for you.
