Cape Town gets new air link via Victoria Falls

Cape Town has secured a fresh regional connection with the launch of Air Tanzania’s new route via Victoria Falls, a move set to boost tourism, trade and travel between Southern and East Africa.

Air Tanzania adds Cape Town to its growing network

Air Tanzania will begin operating the new Cape Town service on 11 December, with flights scheduled every Thursday and Friday.

The route will run via Victoria Falls, creating a convenient regional triangle linking Tanzania, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

The airline already operates a daily direct service to Johannesburg, and the Cape Town addition marks another step in strengthening its Southern African footprint.

Boost for tourism and regional mobility

The Air Tanzania new link is expected to enhance tourism and business travel.

As reported by Tourism Update the air link will offer smoother access between Cape Town and Dar es Salaam. This will also include destinations across East, Central and Southern Africa.

The service also opens more efficient connections for travellers heading to Tanzania’s major attractions. These include the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ruaha, Mikumi and Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous).

Air Tanzania Zimbabwe Country Manager Ismail Mpinga told ZBC News about the decision.

He said the move to link Victoria Falls and Cape Town was driven by their strong tourism appeal.

“We decided to go to Vic Falls and Cape Town as they are tourist destinations. We look at these two destinations as brothers and sisters, so we will link them in terms of marketing with the tourism board,” he said.
