Call for Springboks to hire anthem singer after another ‘blunder’

South Africans are calling on SA Rugby to hire an official national anthem singer to perform at Springboks matches after another rendition received negative reviews.

The Boks played against Ireland in Dublin over the weekend, where they beat the host country 24-13.

Child singer Niamh Beatrix Smith sang Nkosi Sikelel iAfrika on behalf of her home country.

SPRINGBOK FANS DEMAND OFFICIAL ANTHEM SINGER

Ahead of kickoff, South African-born child singer Niamh Beatrix Smith sang the national anthems on behalf of the Springboks.

However, her performance did not get the thumbs up from many rugby fans.

In fact, many rugby supporters have called on officials to hire a singer to perform before every match.

‘PRIDE AND LOVE’

Despite the criticism, anthem singer Niamh Beatrix Smith was overjoyed at her performance on behalf of the Springboks.

The child singer was born in South Africa but relocated to Ireland several years ago.

She shared on Instagram: “I had the absolute honour of singing the South African national anthem at a packed @avivastadium for the Springboks vs Ireland match.

“I won’t lie — I was freezing and terrified right before walking on… but the moment I stepped out, all I felt was pride and love”.

Despite living in Ireland, she added: “To the BOKKE: so, so proud. The best team won!”.

STILL THE BEST ONE YET?

On social media, South Africans have agreed that one of the favourite national anthems sung was by Keabetswe “KB” Motsilanyane.

The actress and singer had rugby fans in tears with her moving rendition of Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika at Loftus when the Springboks took on Ireland.
