Brown Mogotsi, a North West businessman and alleged associate of suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, is set to begin his highly anticipated testimony before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry over the next two days.
His appearance marks the start of the second phase of the commission’s probe into widespread allegations of corruption and political interference within the criminal justice system.
Mogotsi has been named in proceedings before both this commission and Parliament’s ad hoc committee.
He stands accused of acting as a go-between for Minister Mchunu and alleged crime boss and businessman, Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala. The hearings will provide Mogotsi with the opportunity to respond directly to the claims against him.
In previous comments to the SABC, Mogotsi expressed his willingness to cooperate but challenged the potential use of certain evidence, specifically questioning whether police Generals (naming Khumalo, Mkhwanazi, and Masemola) could produce the necessary Section 205 legal authorisation for accessing cell phone data.
He raised concerns that messages could be “planted” or altered using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
