British rapper Ghetts charged in court today after London student died in ‘hit-and-run’

The British rapper known as Ghetts has been charged in court today after a London student died in an alleged “hit and run”.

Ghetts, whose real name is Justin Clarke-Samuel, has been charged with death by dangerous driving after reportedly failing to stop when he hit Yubin Tamang.

The family of the Nepali student have been demanding justice since his death last week (20th October).

The 20-year-old’s father posted a tribute filled with pictures of Yubin’s childhood in Nepal, Metro reports. The message read: “‘My little world, all I have left is tears in my hands.”

Yubin lived with his brother David in east London. David said: “‘He was my brother. I can barely speak. I am so upset. He was a good person, a very good person.”

Yubin’s sister Manita Rai posted a TikTok which read: “Please [get] justice for my brother. We miss you.”

The 20-year-old had been “a good student” at the University of Roehampton before the fatal crash, and was himself a fan of hip-hop music.

Appearing at Barkingside Magistrates today, Ghetts wore a grey prison-issued tracksuit. The 41-year-old had initially been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

After Yubin died in hospital on 20th October, two days after the collision, the indictment was changed. Ghetts first appeared at Stratford Magistrates’ Court on the same day.

The incident occurred in Redbridge Lane East on 18th October.
