WINTER is nearly here and that means more drivers will be on the roads in the dark relying on their headlights.
If you are noticing your lights are not quite up to scratch, it might be worth checking what’s in your bathroom cabinet.

Industry experts say toothpastes is an affordable way to stop foggy headlights[/caption]
Motoring experts say toothpaste is just as good at brightening your headlights as any specialised kit.
To get the best results rub the toothpaste onto the headlight with an old cloth, or even an old toothbrush.
The toothpaste will lift the dirt and smudges off the headlights and after a rinse of water they will be sparkling.
Mild abrasives in toothpaste smooth the surface and helps water droplets run off the headlight.
Masking tape around the headlight is a must to avoid damage to the paintwork, warned one Reddit user.
BigWantsYourCar advised the The Express: “While it is not a permanent fix, it can offer a simple, low-cost way of improving visibility during downpours.
“For less than the price of a cup of coffee, drivers could gain a bit more peace of mind when the rain is at its worst.”
The added that toothpaste can be used to clear up a windscreen as well.
“Small, inexpensive hacks like these can make a surprising difference in day-to-day driving, but they should never replace proper maintenance.
“Drivers should always ensure their mirrors, windscreens and lights are cleaned regularly and kept in good working order.
“The key message is that visibility is non-negotiable. A few minutes of preparation could save you from accidents, penalty points and unnecessary costs” continued the online car sales representative.
One blogger raved about the DIY hack: “I have to admit I didn’t know if this would work, but I am pleasantly surprised.
“When I go to pick up the boy at work tonight I will SEE ALL THE THINGS!”
If you are short on toothpaste, white vinegar, baking soda and coke also all make for good polishers, said car experts.

She said toothpaste can also be used for tackling scratches in the paintwork.
In one bizarre video she uses a potato to stop water pooling on a rear-view mirror.
“We just need to wipe potatoes on the rear view mirror a few times.
“There will be no more water droplets.”
