Bafana Bafana will face Mexico in the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 1996 Africa Cup of Nations champions are heading to their fourth FIFA World Cup. Although they have played in three editions, Hugo Broos’ charges have never passed the group stages.
In 2002, Bafana came close but lost 3-2 to Spain, needing just a draw to reach the last 16. In 2010, they needed to beat France 4-0 to qualify, but fell short as they only won 2-1 and became the first team to get knockout in the group stages as hosts.
