Bokang takes over Miss Universe SA: ‘Exciting new chapter’

Former Miss South Africa Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala has officially taken leadership of the Miss Universe South Africa franchise.

Under the African Beauty International – which also helms the Miss Supranational SA pageant –  the 2010 titleholder serves as national director.

The Miss SA finale takes place this weekend. For the first time, the national competition will not compete in global pageants.

Miss Universe will take place on 21 November in Thailand.

MISS UNIVERSE SA BECOMES NEW ENTITY

In a statement, Bokang Montjane Tshabalala, the president of Africa Beauty International,  revealed that she was now in charge of Miss Universe SA.

“South Africa will be represented beautifully at this year’s Miss Universe in Thailand….We continue to empower young women and redefine beauty”, Bokang said in an Instagram video post.

She added that she was excited about embracing the “new chapter” in her career.

This year’s Miss Universe will take place in a month on 21 November, in Thailand.

Over 100 women from countries around the world will participate.

WHO IS BOKANG MONTJANE-TSHABALALA?

According to a statement, Bokang is the only South African woman to compete in four global pageants – Miss World, Miss Universe, Miss Earth, and Miss International.

The businesswoman won the Miss SA title in 2010

Earlier this year, Bokang revealed that she had taken over ownership of Miss South Africa. She is also the director of Mrs Universe Africa.

She founded African Beauty International – an organisation created to empower women.

Bokang is also the wife of retired Bafana Bafana player Simphiwe Tshabalala. They have two children, one of whom has autism.
