Binged The Ed Gein Story? Netflix is already working on the next terrifying Monster season

Before Monster took on The Ed Gein Story on Netflix, the streamer and Ryan Murphy already announced casting and production had began on the fourth season – because clearly the hunger for tasteless and gruesome true crime knows no satiation. If you spent this weekend binging the impossibly bleak Ed Gein Story on Netflix, you don’t have to do much waiting for the next season of Monster because its theme is going to be all about Lizzie Borden. Here’s what we know about it so far, because the case is fascinating.

The true story of Lizzie Borden

Lizzie Borden always scared me as a kid because my dad used to say her now infamous rhyme. “Lizzie Borden took an axe
and gave her mother forty whacks. When she saw what she had done, she gave her father forty-one.” Gruesome, but not entirely untrue. Lizzie Borden is one of the most famous speculated murderers in American history. She lived in Massachusetts and in 1892 gained infamy after she was put on trial for the brutal axe murders of her mother and father.

Lizzie Borden got acquitted and was never delivered a guilty verdict. But throughout history and various depictions in pop culture, it is widely accepted that Lizzie Borden probably very much did murder her parents with an axe. There were lots of suspicious details surrounding her response – mostly conflicting reports she told investigators and the fact that she always seemed to most people very cold about the situation.

Kristen Stewart and Chloe Sevigny in Lizzie (2018)

A well known adaptation of the Lizzie Borden story came out within the last 10 years, and saw Kristen Stewart as Borden and had Chloe Sevigny in the cast two and gave it a lesbian love story spin.

Monster is taking on Lizzie Borden next

Despite the fact The Ed Gein Story has had very mixed reviews and Ryan Murphy fatigue is at an all time high, Netflix has confirmed The Lizzie Borden Story will be the next Monster. Ella Beatty will be playing Lizzie Borden herself, and other cast members include the spectacular Rebecca Hall. Vicky Krieps, who plays Else Koch in Ed Gein, will also be in the cast as well as Ryan Murphy favourite Billie Lourd.

It’s not quite started filming yet, but production has just begun.

Monster: The Ed Gein Story is available on Netflix now. For all the latest Netflix news and drops, like The Holy Church of Netflix on Facebook.
