Ben Youssef reacts after Kaizer Chiefs defeat in CAF CC

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef felt his team deserved a draw after a 2-1 defeat in the CAF Confederation Cup to Al Masry in Egypt on Sunday.

Amakhosi played well away from home, but poor defending saw them concede in the last two minutes of the match.

The Tunisian coach admitted his side were inexperienced at this level and felt Chiefs should have been more focused and aggressive

“This was the first time that more than 80 percent of our players experienced this level of continental football. It’s very different from the PSL,” Ben Youssef told Amakhosi media.

“Here you must be more focused, more aggressive. At this level, matches are decided by very small details. If you lose concentration for even one second, you can concede.”

After Al Masry took the lead, Amakhosi equalised five minutes later and it looked like both teams would settle for a draw. A mistake at the back allowed the home side to steal a win and claim all three points in their first group match.

“Looking at our performance, we deserved a minimum of a draw. But we have to learn from our mistakes. We’ll analyse the game, look at the positives and the negatives, and continue to work,” Ben Youssef added.

This coming weekend, Kaizer Chiefs host Egyptian giants Zamalek, and Ben Youssef admitted it was a must-win match.

“Zamalek are one of the best teams in Africa with huge experience in continental competition. It will be a tough game, but if we want to qualify, we cannot afford any mistakes at home. We need to win our home matches and collect more points away,” he said.

“We know our fans, we know the stadium, and we know it will be full. Their support means everything. I hope next weekend we’ll win and put ourselves in a better position in the group,” said the Kaizer Chiefs coach.
