A fire tore through Restorabilia, a well-known furniture business in Bergvliet, early on Thursday morning, causing extensive damage to the premises and its contents.
Firefighters from the City’s Fire and Rescue Service responded to the blaze after being alerted at 06:40, according to spokesperson Jermaine Carelse.
No injuries
“It looks like the fire caused substantial damage to the property. At this stage, no one has been reported injured,” Carelse said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the full extent of the damage is being assessed.
However, early reports suggest that much of the building and its bespoke furniture pieces were destroyed.
Passion project
Restorabilia, founded in 1983 by Nick and Marcelle Harding, began as a passion project focused on sourcing and restoring vintage furniture.
Nick and Marcelle Harding are the parents of Goodluck lead singer, Juliet Harding.
Over the years, it grew into a leading custom furniture design studio in Cape Town, known for creating handcrafted pieces that blend traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetics.
The business has earned a loyal following for its unique, tailor-made designs and dedication to preserving the artistry of furniture making.
The local community has expressed sadness at the damage, but relief that no lives were lost and that local favourite Backyard Café, where Restorabilia trades from, was unaffected.
