15-min lunchtime facelift left me with gaping holes – I paid £1.2k for a surgeon who had only been trained for a WEEK

PEELING the bandages off her face, Leigh Cobb smiled as she gazed at her youthful reflection in the mirror.

Her skin was tight and her wrinkles had vanished.

She’d just undergone her fourth surgery, a face and neck lift in Poland.

At £4,800, it might have cost her a small fortune but Leigh claims it was well worth the money.

And Leigh, 53, from Worcestershire, argues going under the knife is safer than ‘quickie’ cosmetic treatments like Botox and fillers.

Ten years earlier, she was ‘botched’ by a ‘lunchtime’ thread lift that left gaping holes in her face.

The self-proclaimed surgery addict says: “I’d always pick surgery over injecting something foreign into my body, like Botox or fillers.

“My results last 10 years or more, compared to these ‘temporary fixes’ that need doing every few months.

“Plus, I want to be able to have expressions, and not look ‘fake’.

“Too many girls are starting early and they don’t know the long term effects of these treatments.

“They hold so many possible dangers like botulism and paralysis. It’s scary.”

Leigh had her first surgery, liposuction, at 29.

And she loved the flat tummy it left her with.

Six years later she had her eyelids lifted in the UK costing £3.5K.

To her, it made ‘such a dramatic difference’ and she became addicted after that.

She explains: “Living in Dubai as a young women, I had so much damage to my skin.

“As well as going on sun beds three times a week, and several sunshine holidays each year, at the age of 42, feeling ‘old’ and fed up of my wrinkles, I started researching treatments and came across Fraxel laser surgery.”

The procedure claims to rejuvenate damaged skin.

It cost £1,500 in the UK, instead, Leigh found a clinic in Poland offering it for £400.

She explains: “The surgeons reviews were five star and no-one had a bad word to say about him.”

Terrified of more surgery, she decided to try vitamin E cream and daily massage to help the threads dissolve[/caption]

In July 2015, she had the treatment and afterwards was offered a facial thread lift, where dissolvable surgical threads were used to lift sagging skin on her cheeks.

Nicknamed the ‘lunchtime facelift’ it only took 15 minutes and promised to leave her looking years younger.

Next day, she went ahead at the price of £1200.

She says: “Afterwards I was left with huge, gaping holes in my cheeks.

“Horrified, I was told it was ‘normal’ and would settle in a week.”

Back home, though, she discovered the surgeon had only been trained in the thread lift a week.

After that horrible experience I vowed never to have procedures ‘on a whim’

Leigh Cobb

Desperate to fix her face, she saw a surgeon in Derby who confirmed she’d need laser surgery to fix it, costing £2,000.

Terrified of more surgery, she decided to try vitamin E cream and daily massage to help the threads dissolve.

Over two months later, the holes finally began to fade.

This experience didn’t deter her and aged 45, she had her boobs lifted for £3k in Costa Rica.

She says: “After that horrible experience I vowed never to have procedures ‘on a whim’.

“I would make sure I’d always do my research.”

Last year, feeling uncomfortable with the way she looked, she researched a lower face and neck lift.

She says: “My neck felt saggy, like a turkey neck.

“Despite friends saying I looked gorgeous, I just wanted to improve my confidence.”

Do's & Don'ts before and after Botox

Dr. Aamer Khan reveals the do's and don'ts with Botox

Do’s Before Botox

Consult a qualified practitioner with medical training and experience.

Inform your practitioner about all medications, supplements, and medical conditions.

Avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medications (aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E) for 24–48 hours.

Stay hydrated and have a light meal before your appointment.

Ask questions about the procedure, expectations, and outcomes.

Don’ts Before Botox

Avoid retinol, glycolic acid, or exfoliants on treatment areas for 24 hours.

Don’t schedule within 2 weeks of major events to allow time for the treatment to work and any healing. needed, possible bruising, which can occur.

Reschedule if you’re feeling unwell (cold, infection, etc.).

Try to avoid makeup on the day of treatment, unless it is mineral make up.

Do’s After Botox

Gently move treated muscles (smile, frown) to help Botox settle.

Stay upright for 4–6 hours post-treatment.

Apply cold compresses gently to reduce swelling if there is any.

Use mild, non-active skincare to keep skin clean and calm.

Don’ts After Botox

Do not lie down or bend over for at least 4–6 hours.

Avoid touching or rubbing the injected area for 24 hours.

Skip workouts and heat exposure (gym, saunas, hot yoga) for 24 hours.

Don’t apply makeup or active skincare for at least 12–24 hours.

Avoid alcohol and blood thinners for 24 hours post-treatment.

For any concerns post-treatment, always contact your provider directly. Mild redness, swelling, or bruising is common and usually subsides within a few days.

In February this year, she went under the knife again.

She explains: “I did so much research on the surgeon.

“Looking at testimonials and pictures of her work on social media.

“Her stitching was so neat, it was one of the reasons I opted for her.

“And of course, the price. Being in Poland, it was £13,000 cheaper than here in the UK.

“Of course, I would always pick safety over cost though.

“Since having the op, I feel and look amazing.

“I have a neck of a 16 year old and love it.

“Men think I’m in my late 30s and I get hit on during nights out with my friends by young men.

“I love people’s reaction when I tell them I’m 53. It makes me feel really good.”

On the dangers of Botox, she continues: “Freezing a muscle so much over time must affect how that muscle works.

“Too many back street clinics or unqualified individuals, not properly trained are administering it.

“I learnt my lesson not to trust amateurs all those years ago.

“There’s nothing wrong with taking care of your appearance as long as you do it safely and not in haste.”

And like previous years, the Sunday night results show, although presented as live, is actually filmed on Saturday night after the main live show.

This means that every year, the results leak online.

The contestants in the bottom two and therefore the dance-off have been revealed as well as how the judges’ voted.

The Sun will not reveal the identity of those in the bottom two, nor give away clues, but we have included some fan reaction below.

Reacting to the bottom two, one person said on X: “Right decision but shocked my the other person in the bottom two….”

Another person penned: “Snd this is exactly what happens when you undermark someone with so much potential.”

They continued saying how they were “genuinely fuming” that the celebrity was “even in the dance off at all especially this early”.

A third said: “Blimey, that’s a shocker, one deffo doesn’t deserve to be in the bottom two.”

And a fourth wrote: “WHY IS THE OTHER PERSON IN THE DANCE OFF?”

Meanwhile, reacting to the celebrity who was booted off, one person said: “Right decision.”

While another added: “The right person went.”

And a third said: “That’s a right result. Whoever was saved doesn’t matter.”

As mentioned previously, The Sun will not reveal the identity of the celebrity eliminated from the show in order to preserve the surprise for viewers.

LIVE SHOW SHAKEUP

This comes after eagle-eyed Strictly fans were left baffled after spotting live show shake up during last night’s Musicals Week episode.

Strictly Come Dancing 2025 lineup

Strictly Come Dancing news and the latest line up

Before the show started, pro dancer Julian Caillon shared a blurry picture of the running order.

But as the show got underway, Strictly viewers noticed that Karen Carney was moved from the fourth slot in the line up.

The former footballer was dancing a Cha Cha Cha to She’s a Lady from Miss Congeniality with her pro partner Carlos Gu.

She was supposed to perform after YouTube star George Clarke, but he was followed by Drag Race star La Voix instead.

The eagle-eyed viewers immediately took to X to question the change, with one writing: “I wonder why they changed order with Karen and Carlos and they weren’t in Clauditorium.

“Maybe some wardrobe problem.”

Another added: “why did we skip karen and carlos in the running order.”

JUDGE ALMOST MISSES CUE

In the end, Karen and Carlos performed seventh and scored 25 points.

However, things went a bit awry when it came to the scores, as Motsi Mabuse almost missed her cue.

Craig Revel Horwood started things off with a disappointing 4.

As he delivered it, Motsi seemed completely surprised as she cried ‘Oh no’, before turning to the back of the desk and scrambling around.

She managed to grab her seven paddle in the nick of time and gave her score.

At the end of the night, Karen found herself in the bottom half of the leaderboard, joint third from bottom with Vicky Pattison.

Strictly Come Dancing returns for its results show tonight on BBC One at 7.15pm.

Moment ‘bullying’ Chinese ship ‘deliberately rams’ Philippine government boat in dangerous South China Sea clash

A CHINESE ship “deliberately rammed” into a Philippine government vessel in a shocking clash in the South China Sea.

Dramatic footage released by Manila showed the Chinese coast guard deploying its water cannon and chasing the Philippine vessel before the collision in a brazen show of force.

Manila’s coast guard said three vessels were anchored near the island on Sunday to protect local fishermen when Chinese ships approached and used water cannon to intimidate them.

An hour later, a Chinese coast guard ship “fired its water cannon” at one of the boats – before it “deliberately rammed the stern” of the same vessel just three minutes later.

It caused “minor structural damage but no injuries to the crew”, the Philippines coast guard said.

“Despite these bullying tactics and aggressive actions… we will not be intimidated or driven away,” a statement said.

They described it as a “clear threat” as tensions escalate in the hotly contested waterway.

But Beijing hit back and blamed the Philippines for the collision.

Chinese coast guard spokesperson Liu Dejun said the Philippine ship “ignored repeated stern warnings from the Chinese side, and “dangerously approached” the other ship.

He said Philippine government vessels “illegally entered” waters near Sandy Cay, a coral reef in the northern Thitu Reefs within the Spratly Islands, leading to a collision.

China has tried to claim the Spratly islands for years – and clashes between Philippine and Chinese vessels are common in the area.

Beijing claims the region almost entirely despite an international ruling that the assertion has no legal basis.

Manila’s authorities vowed to continue operations in the area – emphasising the need to protect Filipino fishermen’s livelihood.

Tensions have heightened recently, particularly over the Scarborough Shoal and other contested regions in the South China Sea, which China claims almost entirely.

Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam also assert claims over portions of the waterway – a strategic trade route that facilitates over $3trillion in annual ship-borne commerce.

More than 60 per cent of global maritime trade passes through the disputed waterway.

In August, a Chinese navy warship crashed into its own coast guard vessel while chasing a Philippine patrol boat in South China Sea.

Dramatic footage released by Manila showed a massive Chinese warship bearing the number 164 on its hull smashing into a China Coast Guard ship with a loud crash.

The Chinese ship sustained major damage to its hull after crashing into its own coast guard ship.

The Philippine coast guard was escorting boats distributing aid to fishermen in the area when the Chinese navy vessels began chasing them.

Why is the South China Sea contested?

THE South China Sea is an arena for a power struggle between different powers.

Several countries claim the rights to large portions of its territory based on historical rights.

The problem is, some of these claims overlap.

China’s claim is based on a vague “nine-dash line” on some maps, which is not generally recognised in international law.

Many countries argue that China’s claims violate the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Other countries, like Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia and Brunei, are eager not the concede the territory, because it is known to hold valuable natural assets like natural resources.

One major point of tension is the Spratly Islands, with multiple countries claiming ownership of various islets and reefs.

China has been criticized for constructing artificial islands in the South China Sea and deploying military equipment there.

Recent announcements for a seabed research centre will further inflame this anger.
