Horrifying photos show the true cause of man’s itchy eye – after he found a LEECH feasting on his eyeball

A BRIT travel agent’s trip to test holiday hotspots became a “nightmare” when he discovered a leech sucking on his EYEBALL.

Tony Exall was on a jungle tour near West Papua, Indonesia on May 22 this year when his left eye began to irritate him.

The 58-year-old blamed it on sweat or a tiny bug but two hours later a fellow visitor spotted that he actually had a leech on his eyeball.

A horrifying photo shows Tony’s bloodshot eye with the small black bloodsucker latched to the white area called the sclera.

Tony grew concerned it might wriggle its way behind his eye so ended his trip early to find medical help.

After six hours and trips to two hospitals a doctor extracted the leech using tweezers – despite the creature pulling on his eyeball tissue to hang on.

Tony, who owns travel company Philippine Dive Holidays, was in Indonesia to test out locations for customers when he decided to head on a photography trip.

The travel agent avoided catching an infection and achieved his aim of snapping a rare king bird-of-paradise minutes before the incident.

He posted the video to Facebook where users described it as ‘stuff nightmares are made of’ and like ‘something from a horror movie’.

Tony, from Oxted, Surrey, said: “I came over here to investigate different places to work with in Indonesia so I thought, while I’m here, I want to do a bit of bird snapping.

“We were waiting for the bird to turn up and I was sweating buckets.

“I could feel something in my eye but I just thought it was a bug. I tried to get rid of it but couldn’t so I tried to ignore it.

“There were leeches everywhere and I must have used the back of my hand to wipe the sweat so I essentially wiped it into my eye.

“A couple hours later we went to move on to somewhere else and one of my spotters pointed out the leech in my eye.

“My biggest concern was that it would get round the back of my eye. He tried to pull it out with his fingers.

“He was pinching my eyeball to get it out but the leech was fixed onto my eyeball. I tried rubbing it but I couldn’t get it out.”

Tony had trekked two hours through the jungle near Malagufuk, West Papua, to reach an area known for king bird-of-paradise sightings.

After having the leech pulled from his eye, Tony was prescribed eye drops and antibiotics to make sure he didn’t develop an infection.

You hear these stories about tropical diseases and infections and having one in your eye is not the best place to have one

Tony said: “We went to two hospitals to find someone that knew something about eyes.

“At first he tried to remove it and that was quite sore because a leech grabs hold of something and starts to suck the blood.

“He started to gently pull the leech which was quite sore as it was something pulling on my eyeball.

“My next concern was how do you get it off my eye without leaving anything behind.

“You hear these stories about tropical diseases and infections and having one in your eye is not the best place to have one.

“The doctor then squirted some anaesthetic drops onto my eye, got some tweezers and pop, off it came.

“The tissue of my eye was being pulled. I have never had that sensation before.”

After sharing the “squeamish” photos of his eye on Facebook, freaked-out users were quick to comment on his bizarre experience.

One user said: “I’m not usually squeamish but that is stuff from horror movies! Hope everything is okay now.”

Another added: “Omg you need a trigger warning on this post. Sounds awful, hope you recover quickly.”

A third said: “Stuff nightmares are made of.”

A fourth added: “Dangerous stuff, this photography.”

What to do if you have a foreign object in your eye

  1. Advise the casualty not to rub their eye as this could make it worse. Ask them to sit down facing a light.
  2. Stand behind them and gently open their eyelids with your thumbs. Ask them to look right, left, up and down as you look closely at the eye.
  3. If you can see something, ask them to tip their head backwards and wash it out by pouring clean water from the inner corner from a glass or jug.
  4. If this doesn’t work and the object is still on the surface of the eye, try to remove it with a moist piece of gauze or the damp corner of a clean handkerchief or tissue. If the object isn’t easy to remove or the eye is very painful, seek medical advice – ring 111 or attend an Eye Casualty, Emergency Department or Urgent Treatment Centre.

Romeo Beckham, 22, sparks romance rumours with German model Caroline Daur, 30, in Paris as they leave hotel after party

ROMEO Beckham has sparked romance rumours with German model Caroline Daur in Paris after they left a hotel after party together.

Model Romeo, 22, whose split from DJ Kim Turnbull, 26, was revealed just days ago, was spotted leaving the Hotel Costes on Saturday night with Caroline and a group of friends.

Romeo and Kim had been together for seven months before calling it quits.

According to friends, the relationship “fizzled out” around three weeks after David Beckham’s 50th birthday celebrations.

But it seems Romeo may already be moving on.

He and Caroline were seen making a low-key exit from the event – leaving separately to avoid being photographed side by side – before climbing into the same car with pals and continuing the night out.

They headed on to Julia nightclub in the French capital.

Romeo kept his outfit laid-back with a black jumper, dark tracksuit bottoms and blue trainers.

Caroline opted for a strapless little black dress and knee-high black boots.

It’s thought the pair bonded over a shared love of tennis, having both attended the French Open’s Men’s Singles Semi Final on Friday.

It was reported just four days ago that Romeo and Kim had called time on their seven-month relationship.

A friend of the pair told the Mail: “Romeo and Kim are both young and they had a lovely time together but at that age things don’t always last forever and they decided to split up.

“They have been friendly since and have even been at the same venues.

“It’s a huge shame, particularly as David and Victoria really adored her and thought she made Romeo happy but it wasn’t to be.

“It happened a couple of weeks ago and relations have remained friendly between them.”

Kim was said to be at the heart of the Beckham family feud in which eldest child Brooklyn and wife Nicola Peltz, 30, have become estranged.

Brooklyn previously dated Kim as a teenager and was reportedly unhappy she was on the guestlist for David’s birthday celebrations.

However, the insider insists that the feud has had no bearing on their decision to call it a day.

Kim and Romeo went public in November, 20 months after his split from Mia Reagan, his ex of five years.

While Kim was previously linked to Rocco Ritchie, the son of Madonna and Guy Ritchie, who is one of Becks’ closest pals.

The Beckhams are yet to speak publicly about their family row, but there have been digs thrown around on social media.

Tellingly, Brooklyn publicly wished Nicola’s brother a happy birthday just days ago, not long after snubbing his dad’s milestone entirely.

He has also added a floral tattoo to his chest, swamping the “mama’s boy” tribute to his mum Victoria that previously took pride of place.

While Romeo’s romance has ended, Brooklyn and Nicola‘s appears stronger than ever as they band together.

In a love-struck confession, Brooklyn, 26, said he knew she was “the one” after just three months of dating.

He opened up to Glamour on his early plans to pop the question to the Lola actress, who he married in Miami three years ago.

In a rare joint interview with his wife, Brooklyn said: “I knew after three months that I wanted to marry her.

“But because of Covid, I wanted to wait until our families could be there.”

The chef and photographer failed to mention his parents, David and Victoria, by name amid their feud which has seen claims Brooklyn has now hired Prince Harry’s lawyers to solve the bitter dispute.

Brooklyn continued to detail his proposal plans to Glamour’s Germany edition and added: “A few hours before, I had a golf cart accident and needed stitches in my hand.

“My thumb was completely bandaged – I couldn’t even open the wine!”

Best friends

During the chat, he was quick to gush over his spouse and their almost-instant connection.

He said: “When I first saw Nicola at Coachella, I was immediately captivated – by her beauty, her warmth, her charisma.

“Even though it was only a fleeting moment, it stayed with me for a long time.”

He then added: “You have to marry your best friend, someone you feel at home with. For me, Nicola is exactly that.”

Emmerdale’s first look at Mandy and Paddy’s new lovenest as Lisa Riley gives fans a tour of home

LIFE is going to get very saucy for Emmerdale stalwarts, Mandy and Paddy Dingle, as they move into their brand-new ‘love nest’ – ‘Pandy Towers’.

The fan favourites are moving into Dr Liam’s old house and in true Mandy style, it’s been given a fresh new look with ‘love’ cushions, fruity sexual innuendos and even their very own ‘M & P’ bookcase lit up in lights.

And as the soap’s legendary actress, Lisa Riley, gives The Sun an exclusive tour today around the couple’s brightly coloured pad, she admits Mandy and Paddy love it so much, they can’t keep their hands off each other.

“They are like village magnets,” she exclaimed.

“At long last, Mandy and Paddy have got their very own love nest!

“This week the audience will get to see the love nest too and I know they are going to love it as much as Mandy and Paddy.

“They’ve called it Pandy Towers!

“Over the next few weeks, you will see them running off together back to the house.

“They can’t keep their hands off each other and they want to take pure advantage of their new love nest.

“But I think this is great a soap like Emmerdale can make plenty of references to this.

“Like many people between the ages of 45 and 55, Paddy and Mandy have a wonderful love life!”

As our exclusive pictures show, it’s clear Mandy is the main architect behind the décor that includes 27 strawberry items in a very cheeky nod to their fruity antics.

Smiling, Lisa explained: “You can tell Paddy has not had as much of a say in the property as he would have liked but he adores it and he trusts Mandy.

“He let her run with it and there are strawberries everywhere! In fact, Mandy and Paddy have 27 strawberry items in a nod to their fruity naughtiness!

“From strawberry mugs, mats and strawberry lamps to little tea lights, fair lights, strawberries are everywhere in Pandy Towers.

“Even little Eve has a strawberry stool and there are strawberry pillows too!”

Guiding Sun readers around the home that is decorated with a pleather of rainbow colours, Mandy’s beauty products are dotted everywhere.

It’s not neat and tidy, as you would expect with the extrovert salon owner in charge, and her garish taste is in abundance.

“But there is no leopard print,” stressed Lisa. “Mandy leaves that at the salon!”

Standing pride of place is a white shelving unit lit up in lights with the letters “M & P”. “This bookcase is phenomenal,” exclaimed Lisa before joking: “It’s wonderful to see but obviously there is the phenomenal bromance of Marlon and Paddy. So do the letters really mean Mandy and Paddy?!”

She points to a pair of neon pink marigold gloves that don the letters ‘Domestic Goddess’.

“What I love too is Mandy’s marigolds,” she added.

“As you would expect with Mandy, they are not normal marigolds – she has a sewn-on ring with the lettering ‘Domestic Goddess!’

“What’s great is the lounge is so multi-coloured. Dr Liam’s house was dark and dismal.

Everything you need to know about Emmerdale

“Now it’s colours everywhere. The comparison is literally like going to A to Z instantly!”

But Lisa, who as Mandy plays one of the biggest matriarchs of the Dingles, also stresses there are plenty of poignant nods to the famous soap family too.

Dotted around are lots of family photos and the Dingle’s family emblem of a crotched blanket is neatly placed over the sofa.

“You have got the original Dingle blanket and it’s all about the family” said Lisa.

“There are pictures of Mandy and Paddy’s wedding day and one of her with Uncle Zak.

“The audience are going to see lots of shots of the Mandy and Zak picture which I think is wonderful. They were so close.”

Lisa says she has loved working with Emmerdale’s set design team on ‘Pandy Towers’ and she reveals a lot of effort has been put in to making sure many of the items have been upcycled.

In fact, as Lisa explains, fans can now buy Mandy’s old dresses on eBay.

“We have tried to upcycle a lot of the items,” added the star. “We are really big on that. We’ve got a pre-loved eBay site now where you can buy lots of items, including Mandy’s clothes . Not only can fans get a piece of nostalgia but it is all going to a new home. I love that.”

As for what lies ahead, she teases whilst fans can expect plenty of saucy fun, there will also be lots of drama with Mandy and Paddy too – especially with the couple’s relationship with Bear Wolf.

“Mandy and Paddy are real carers and they look out for people but there will be a lot of drama too,” she warned.

“It’s going to be particularly dramatic with Bear Wolf…”

  • Emmerdale runs every weekday on ITV1 and STV1 at 7.30pm. Episodes can be streamed on ITVX.

Emergency services scrambled to north Manchester at around 5pm on Sunday following reports of a serious assault.

Greater Manchester Police launched a murder investigation and arrested four people – including three teenagers – in connection with the death.

Two boys, 14 and 16, were arrested on suspicion of murder.

A 14-year-old girl and a 37-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

All four remain in custody this morning.

Cops said a number of crime scenes are in place as they investigate.

Manchester Coroner’s Office confirmed it has received a file for Ibrahima.

Flowers and tributes have been left at the scene, as cops and forensics continue to investigate.

Eyewitnesses told MEN how the young victim fled the attack, running through his front door begging for help.

“He just came through the door and said ‘I’ve been stabbed’.

“We sat him down on a chair and phoned an ambulance.

“He just kept saying ‘I don’t want to die’.”

Onlookers desperately tried to save Ibrahima with CPR before paramedics arrived.

Superintendent Marcus Noden said last night: “This is a distressing and heart-breaking incident where a boy has lost his life.

“We are still trying to establish the circumstances around the incident and have a number of scenes in place.”

Pictures from the scene show a police cordon on Nevin Road in New Moston as well as another at the nearby Fairway Inn pub.

An air ambulance was also scrambled to the scene, landing in Nuthurst Road Park – just a short distance away from Nevin Road.

Detectives said the boy’s family is being supported by specialist officers.

Cops are currently appealing for information and are asking people who were in the Nevin Road area to come forward.

You can report any information to the police through their website or by calling 101, quoting log 2250 of 8/6/25.

If you wish to submit information anonymously, you can use the independent charity Crimestoppers to do so.
