Red alert weather warning issued for Spain holiday coasts with ‘extraordinary danger’ of floods & 10ins of rain forecast

A RED alert has been issued across coastal Spanish holiday hotspots – with “extraordinary danger” of floods and 10 inches of rain expected.

Costa Blanca is bracing for Storm Alice, which is forecast to leave heavy rain and flash floods in its path of destruction, authorities say.

Spain‘s weather agency AEMET issued the high alert for Alicante in the eastern region of Valencia on Thursday.

Jawdropping footage showed muddy torrents of water sweeping through streets regularly packed with tourists.

Cars were pulled off the ground and stuck in huge puddles following the heavy deluge.

It comes one year after the same area was struck by deadly floods in late 2024 which killed 220 people.

Warning of the latest raging storm, authorities said on X: “Extraordinary danger. Flooding and flash floods may occur.

“Follow the advice of civil protection.”

They added that rainfall totals could go beyond 140 millimetres in just 12 hours in some areas.

And they warned that Valencia could be hit the worst out of all regions – with rain expected to exceed 250 millimetres by Sunday.

Other Mediterranean coastal areas such as Murcia and the Balearic Islands are also expected to be hit.

AEMET said it expected to see “very heavy and persistent rainfall” until Monday.

The agency said: “Showers may result in local flash flooding in low-lying areas, streams and gullies, so the potential danger level of this situation is high.”

Balearic authorities said it reinforced emergency services in holiday hotspot Ibiza on Thursday after it was placed on orange alert for rain and storms.

Foremntera is also expected to be hit by heavy rain which could cause flooding – with authorities on standby to deploy emergency workers if needed.

It comes after intense rainfall beat down eastern Spain on Wednesday.

The biblical showers are expected to last throughout the week.

Tourists in the region have also been urged to take caution and check local weather updates as much as possible.

Storm Alice is a DANA – which stands for “Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos,” or “isolated depression at high altitudes”.

The “cold drop” phenomenon occurs when more warm and moist Mediterranean air than usual is sucked high into the atmosphere after a cold system hits the country.

The temperature difference between the cold air aloft and the warm surface air creates instability, leading to rapid uplift of warm, moist air and the formation of intense thunderstorms.

It comes after deadly Spanish floods killed 220 people.

Deadly storms which began on October 29 last year wreaked havoc across holiday hotspots on the Iberian peninsula.

The handling of the disaster by authorities sparked mass protests which saw riot police battle swarms of furious locals.

MAFS UK bride Leigh slams wife Leah for ‘lying’ to her in front of their friends as the married couple clash AGAIN

MARRIED At First Sight bride Leigh hit out at wife Leah for ‘lying’ in front of their pals.

The couple have had their share of ups and downs since tying the knot on the E4 show.

A teaser for the next instalment hints at further tension to come for the pair.

Leigh and Leah are sat around a table with friends when a disagreement takes place.

Leah says: “We were all in the pub and [it was like] ‘What would be your normal type?’

“I was like dark hair, gym girl…”

To which Leigh responded: “You’ve been telling me this whole time that that conversation never happened.

“I don’t like being lied to.”

Previously, the two women got off to a rocky start when Leigh confessed Leah wasn’t her usual type after they said ‘I do’.

She admitted: “I’m a bit apprehensive, she’s not what I normally go for, I think I’ve made a mistake.”

Leah was left confused, saying: “I don’t know if she fancies me or not.”

Things seemed to improve between the two women as they confessed to finally sharing a kiss.

Leigh admitted she was irked when Leah appeared to be getting close to Rebecca

She said: “Last night, drinks were flowing and we were having a good time but Leah was being a bit flirty with Rebecca.

“She has said to me before that she’s got a flirty personality and it’s something I’ve dealt with in my past but I don’t want to feel like I’m being disrespected.”

The couple were then seen discussing the previous night, with Leigh saying: “I started to feel like you were being overly familiar with Rebecca.

Mafs couples that have stood the test of time

Loved-up Tayah Victoria and Adam Aveling of series six fame had the first Mafs baby.

The pair couldn’t keep their hands off each other on the programme and quickly found their feet in the outside world, moving into Adam’s Doncaster home.

Just 18 months after meeting, the couple welcomed their daughter Beau.

Season five couple Michelle Walder and Owen Jenkins also managed to make their marriage work away from the cameras and had their first child in December.

Teacher Michelle, 29, has no regrets about taking part in the experiment. She told us: “I just feel very lucky and thankful that it has worked out – and excited for everything to come.”

Michelle and Owen were both sick of dating apps when they applied in 2019.

Owen recalled: “I had been out for some drinks with a friend after work.

“While he was out for a cigarette I was scrolling on Instagram waiting for him to come back in.

“The MAFS advert was the last thing I saw, and I joked, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if I signed up?’

“A few beers later when I was back at home I sent in the application, and the rest is history.”

Another couple to make Mafs UK history is Zoe Clifton and Jenna Robinson.

Despite a slight rocky start, where they clashed over Jenna’s vegan lifestyle, the show’s first same sex pairing are still going strong.

They even have a successful podcast together called Life With a Pod.

Jenna shed light on being involved in the show earlier this year when she told us: “We’re not legally married, and I never felt like we were. I definitely feel the process makes you take the relationship a lot more seriously and having the help of the experts… if you can survive that process it sets a firm foundation for a long-lasting relationship.”

“Because we’ve had conversations before and you said you’re quite a flirty person…

Leah started to cut her off, quipping: “No, I didn’t say I’m a flirty person. I said people…”

But Leigh insisted: “You’ve got a flirty personality, you said. You did say that.

“So I started to feel like you were being overly familiar with Rebecca. It started to make me feel like… I was a bit like ‘that’s a bit muggy’.”

The former Chelsea manager has split opinions since taking charge of the side, but a win over local rivals Wales would go a long way to endearing England fans.

The Welsh side will be hoping to build momentum at Wembley, with a huge clash against Belgium in the World Cup qualifiers coming up.

But – fans may have noticed something different about the English and Welsh shirts in the second 45 in the capital.

SunSport can reveal why there are no names on the back of the players shirts in the second half at Wembley.

Why do England and Wales players not have names on the back of their shirts?

England and Wales are not playing with names on the back of their shirt to raise awareness for dementia.

This is a joint initiative between the Football Association of Wales, the FA and the Alzheimer’s Society.

Part of the initiative will also see the 22 mascots all be supporters with dementia, rather than the traditional child mascots.

The sides will play with names on their shirts in the opening 45, before they wear different shirts in the second without any names.
