Huge 00s pop group with 10 UK top 40 hits making epic comeback 14 years after last album
SCISSOR SISTERS are working on new music — thanks to the success of their reunion tour this summer.
In the Noughties, the band scored ten Top 40 hits and two No1 albums, dominating the airwaves with tunes including I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’, Filthy/Gorgeous, Take Your Mama and Laura.
And I’m thrilled to reveal that next year the American group are planning to release their first album in 14 years.
The band, featuring frontman Jake Shears, guitarist Del Marquis and bassist BabyDaddy, revealed at the Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards powered by Jaguar — which honour the LGBTQ+ community and its allies — that they have already been back in the studio and the project is “well under way”.
Jake said: “Scissor Sisters has always been about coming as you are, coming together and celebrating what it means to be a human being.
“And it’s exciting to look back but it’s really exciting to look forward too.
“We’re back in the studio making new music after a long time and the next chapter feels like it’s well under way.”
They won the Music Icon award at the bash in Camden, North London, on Wednesday night and Jake, who performed in an eye-popping bright jumpsuit was quick to crack jokes in his speech.
He told the crowd: “The most incredible thing about being back here after all these years is how little we’ve aged.
“I hope we continue to inspire others and those that come after us to create and express themselves freely and find the joy in not always taking yourself so seriously.”
He went on to take a jokey dig at Glastonbury, after their Saturday night slot headlining the Woodsies stage was scheduled for the same time as in-demand sets from Charli XCX and Doechi at this summer’s festival.
‘It’s terrible’
Despite the group’s set still being over-capacity at the festival, he said: “The UK’s been a place that has made us feel so loved and accepted.
“Ironically though, the most homophobic thing that has ever happened in our career here was at Glastonbury this year — putting us against Charli XCX and Doechii this last summer. It’s terrible.
“But people showed up and they brought their friends and their boyfriends and their kids and their nannas and it reminded us why we do this all in the first place.”
Hopefully they’ll be doing it for many years to come with the new tunes in tow, too.
Lottie’s late show
LOTTIE Moss found to her cost that being fashionably late isn’t always cool.
The younger sister of fashionista Kate, arrived so late to the ceremony that she missed the red carpet entirely.
It had all been packed away before Lottie turned up, so she had to have her snaps taken in the middle of the bash.
She took in her stride and still looks insertional in the strapless, silver dress.
But Lottie, despite making her name for herself as a party animal, I didn’t stick around too long and was quickly out of the door and heading home.
Sometimes an early night is all you need.
Russell deserves gong for party boy of year
THE top winner of the night was also the last man standing on the dancefloor – Russell Tovey.
The Brit actor was named Man of the Year and lived up to that at the afterparty by being one of the final celebs to leave at 2.15am.
But I have to hand it to Russell he still looked surprisingly put together at that point and there was no sloppy dancing and he certainly wasn’t staggering as he left.
He looked in his element at the bash, where loads of guests clamoured to speak to him.
However, Russell admitted he hasn’t always been so popular, especially as an actor.
Recalling his early years in the profession, the Plainclothes star told Attitude: “People were like, ‘You should probably get your ears pinned back if you want to get into Hollywood.
“My ears are my thing! I got called all the names growing up. Big ears, wing nut, take-off, FA Cup.
“At no point did I think, ‘I need to do something about this’.”
Stepping up
IAN ‘H’ Watkins revealed he’s working on a secret music project.
Asked if he’s been singing lately, The Steps singer teased: “A little bit. I’m working on a little project that’s not Steps, but that’s exciting, but I’m not telling you. It’s not a musical.”
H has been with partner Tom Hope for five years, but ruled out a wedding anytime soon.
He said: “I’m in no hurry. My kids are thriving, I’ve got a beautiful partner, life is good.”
Den’s tie in with Pam
DENISE WELCH wore a suit and tie as she revealed she is taking inspiration from Pamela Anderson for the next stage of her career, which will see her getting back into acting.
The Loose Women panellist told us: “I’m entering my second act, which I’ve stolen from Pamela Anderson.
“I love what I do. I did a play last year with Matthew Kelly, and it reminded me I miss my acting.
“I’m still doing Loose Women, but I want to remind people what my normal job is. And so, I thought I’d go for a new look for my second act.”
She also opened up about what the future holds for her son Matty Healy from The 1975.
On their upcoming music, she teased: “It’s fabulous. It’s very different, but it’s got the DNA of The 1975. I think you’ll love it. Very proud of it.”
Denise also revealed the unusual pet Matty has with his fiancée, model Gabbriette.
She said: “She has a rat called Splinter. I’m a grandmother to a rat.”

CALUM SCOTT worked with the estate of Whitney Houston to sing with her on I Wanna Dance With Somebody, which he performed at the event.
On the mixed reaction to the duet, he said: “The messages I’ve been getting that Whitney would be proud of it are big compliments.”

Liz delighted to be honorary gay
LIZ HURLEY won the campest award of the night when she was named Honorary Gay.
The actress and model, who arrived with filmmaker son Damian wore a shimmering dress with a thigh-high slit and opened up on stage about how gay men have stayed by her side while boyfriends have come and gone.
She explained: “I’d like to dedicate this beautiful award to all my beautiful gay friends because you have quite simply made my life better.
“You have stuck by me through thick and thin and even when I’ve been at my absolute lowest ebb, it has always been you who have come in like the cavalry and stood by my side.
“You’ve always had my back and I promise you, I’m always going to have yours.”
Meanwhile, her boyfriend Billy Ray Cyrus has been working on new music inspired by Liz.
On a new track, out next month, he sings: “I ain’t gonna be your rhinestone cowboy, I ain’t gonna be your rolling stone.
“All I can do is give my all to you, I just wanna be your man.”
In the chorus he continues: “Everything I’ve been through, I’ve finally found my June. I said I’ll love you the best I can.”

The non-binary singer arrived at the event fresh from walking at Paris Fashion Week.
She said of the album: “I have until December to finish it so that’s given me a big boot up the bum.

Man, 30, arrested after synagogue terror attack is rearrested at Manchester Airport after he had been released
ONE of the men arrested in the wake of the Manchester synagogue terror attack has been rearrested at a UK airport.
The 30-year-old man was initially taken into custody on October 2 on suspicion of the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism.
He has now been arrested again on suspicion of Failing to Disclose Information contrary to S38B of the Terrorism Act 200, cops said.
Cops swooped on the man at Manchester Airport earlier today and took him into custody under PACE.
He has now been released on bail with conditions.
Greater Manchester Police said: “We do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public following the incident last week.”
The investigation into the horror synagogue attack in Crumpsall, North Manchester last week remains ongoing.

Skip buying ready-made sauces and spice mixes and give your dishes a kick with these cupboard tricks instead.
BLEND IT UP: You don’t need a cupboard full of spices to make a great curry.
A brilliant base blend is as simple as two parts ground cumin, two parts ground coriander, and one part turmeric.
Skip the jars of spices you see at the supermarket and head to the World Food Aisle where you can often find bigger bags of spices at a lower price.
When cooking, toast your spice mix in a dry pan for 30 seconds before adding onions and meat to unlock their full, aromatic potential.
It beats any pre-mixed pot from the shops and it costs next to nothing.
PASTE-Y IDEA: Forget buying a generic curry paste.
Create yours by blitzing a chopped onion, two cloves of garlic, a thumb-sized piece of peeled ginger, and a tablespoon of tomato purée in a food processor.
Fry this mixture gently on a low heat in a pan until golden, then add your own spices, such as the ones listed above.
It’s fresher, tastier, and free from preservatives.
If you like it hot, try adding fresh chillies or dried but go slowly, as the heat will intensify when cooking.
MAKE A MARINADE: Instead of a ready-made tikka marinade, mix 150g of plain yoghurt with one tablespoon of your homemade spice blend, a squeeze of lemon juice, and a pinch of salt.
Add your raw chicken, beef or cauliflower if you prefer a veggie curry.
Leave the mixture in the fridge for about two hours and the flavours should all infuse.
Roast your marinated meat in the oven and serve with rice and a wedge of lemon for a proper fakeaway.
ADD SOME FLAVOUR: Elevate any curry in an instant with a simple home-made garnish.
Quickly fry a handful of desiccated coconut or flaked almonds in a dry pan until golden and sprinkle over your finished dish.
It adds a fantastic texture and toasted flavour that you just won’t get from a packet.
