Future of TV adaptations of Jilly Cooper’s bonkbuster books revealed after author’s death aged 88

Bosses behind the hit show Rivals are set to dramatise more of the late author’s books

Former EastEnders producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins has the rights to adapt Jilly’s Rutshire Chronicles series — which includes the best-selling novels Riders, Polo and The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous.

Dominic and Disney+, which screened the first series of Rivals last year, were spurred on by her family’s response after Jilly’s death this week aged 88, following a fall at her Gloucestershire home.

They rejected any suggestion filming on series two should stop out of respect, despite the devastation of cast and crew.

In Jilly’s characteristic no-nonsense style her family said: “The show must go on.”

They felt the best tribute would be to carry on after she spent two years helping to adapt Rivals for the screen.

If show bosses turn to some of the other Rutshire novels there would be enough material to keep going for years.

The number of Rivals episodes is already up from eight in the first series to 12.

And Danny Dyer, who plays Freddie Jones, has hinted they could be split into two six-episode runs.

He told his Live and Let Dyers podcast: “There’s been a lot of excitement about a potential third series.

“We don’t know yet, we’re just getting it done, getting our nut down.

“We’re now on the next six.

“Very grateful and can’t wait to do the second half of this project.”

Disney+ was asked for a comment.

Charles and William make rare joint appearance at eco-conference ahead of Prince’s trip to Brazil on behalf of King

PRINCE William and the king have made a rare joint appearance to host “Countdown to COP30” at the Natural History Museum.

Both The Prince of Wales, 43, and King Charles, 76, have appeared shoulder-to-shoulder at the London museum tonight.

Prince William will be jetting off to the Amazon rainforest – to attend the global eco-summit, on behalf of the King later this year.

The COP30 World Leaders Summit will be held in Belem, Brazil, on November 10.

It falls in the same week William is in Brazil for the fifth instalment of his £50 million Earthshot Prize.

Every year this decade the Prince of Wales awards £1 million to each of five winners working to save the planet.

The Prince’s prize has so far been held in the UK, the USA, Singapore and Cape Town.

William has previously spoken about bringing the prize to every corner of the planet, including South America.

This year the eco event is being hosted in Rio de Janeiro and 24 hours after the prize-giving the prince will fly 1,500 miles north to the Amazon rainforest.

He will join leaders from around the globe to attend COP 30.

William last appeared at a COP when he joined other royals at the event in Glasgow in November 2021.

The King last attended a COP when it was in Dubai two years ago.

Wills has previously said he hopes his presence at the event will promote “urgent optimism” for tackling environment issues.

His father is also a strong advocate for environmental issues and has attended COP events as the Prince of Wales and as the reigning monarch.

When Charles was Prince of Wales he delivered the opening speech at COP 21 in Paris.

During his opening remarks he called for a “vast military-style campaign” to fight climate change.

The climate conference this year will see William rub shoulders with activists, NGOs, policymakers and government representatives.

He is expected to follow in his father’s footsteps and speak at the climate event.

When it was announced William would be attending the event a royal source said: “His commitment to restoring the future of the planet is unwavering and the prince is determined to do all he can to use his platform to spread urgent optimism.

Next year, the climate COP will take place in Brazil, and it’s set to be hugely consequential.

“The Prince of Wales is looking forward to playing a role there.”

Mystery as family of 4 with two kids found dead inside $1.35m home as cops probe ‘suspicious’ deaths

A FAMILY tragedy is unfolding in San Francisco after four people, including two children, were found dead in a million-dollar mansion.

The deaths are being probed as “suspicious” after police were called to the house on Wednesday afternoon.

Cops responded to a welfare check in the wealthy Westwood Highlands neighborhood at around 1:23 pm.

The four family members were pronounced dead at the scene.

The three-bedroom house sold for $1.35 million in 2014 to married couple Paula Truong and Thomas “TR” Ocheltree, according to property records.

The couple had two daughters, who neighbors said were between 8 and 12 years old, reported ABC affiliate KGO.

It’s unclear if Truong, Ocheltree, and their children are the four victims.

“This is a very rare occurrence in this neighborhood,” SFPD Officer Robert Rueca told Fox affiliate KTVU.

“This area rarely sees any type of activity close to this.”

There is no threat to the community, police said.

Sources told KTVU the incident is being investigated as a possible murder-suicide, but police officials have only called it suspicious.

The causes of death are unclear.

‘QUIET FAMILY’

Neighbors on Monterey Boulevard are rattled by the news and described a typical suburban family living at the house.

“We didn’t hear anything or notice something unusual,” neighbor Belinda Hanart told the outlet.

“They were a quiet family.”

She told KGO that there was nothing out of the ordinary in the days leading up to the tragedy.

“Our bedroom is on their side, and we have two dogs,” Hanart said.

“There was no noise, nothing, and I think it was the most disturbing part, we didn’t hear anything. Nothing. We knew it was a family of four with two girls.

“The older one was probably 12 to 13 years old and a dog, and it was a very normal family with a normal family routine.”

PROPERTY HISTORY

It’s unclear if the Ocheltree and Truong family was still living at the house at the time of the deaths.

In February 2024, the couple defaulted on their mortgage and were sent an official notice warning them of the foreclosure process.

The house was then bought in a public auction by a lender.

Truong and Ocheltree appeared to take out multiple loans to pay the lender for the house, property records showed.

Police are still investigating the deaths.
